I was out for a portion of the day getting my car repaired – old age is beginning to catch up with it. (I did look longingly at the latest model in the showroom recently…)

An honest mechanic is worth his weight in gold. I hope you did okay.

I always check out the latest models. Although age seems to have caught up with the newest American Apparel one.

Cheapest car repair I've ever seen – he did it all (two different problems) with large washers and screws! grin

(And one of the managers there is a gamer, though not of the miniatures variety…)

I had the turbo go out on my car. The mechanic asked me if I wanted the $10 USD job or the $460 USD job. Well, I took option A. He pulled out a flathead screwdriver, see-sawed it in the turbo, turned a screw, and "voila", it ran great for the next 8 months. After he was done, he wouldn't even accept he $10 USD! I sold it still running great.

I have a great mechanic.
For his older customers on a budget he will tell them what is wrong with their car and where they can get the parts at a good price, and then he will only charge them for repairs.
He says "It is what you do when you open a business in the town you grew up in and you know everybody."
