…that you are selling at the flea market at Historicon? While getting things organized for the grand march northward, I have discovered that I have a number of minis I want to sell that are painted to a high standard. Then there are other figures that were started, but not finished, and some that barely got the first colors done on them. I know it is a flea market; therefore, people are looking for deal; however, I do not want to just give my better work away. As a example I have an entire, beautifully painted lance of Bretonnian Knights of the Realm, nine models in all with full command and a dynamic banner. So what would be a reasonable price? I should add that I am not interested in selling on eBay as I have found that as less than satisfying and more headache than it is worth. I like the interaction of the convention and I use the flea market as a means to finance new projects and interest.

Thanks,

Attach the price you feel you want to get.
Be willing to barter.

I get 15-20 dollars for an individual fig for the paint job alone. Here are some examples

Some people feel the flea market is a flea market, so items priced to sell and get rid of, like $3 USD-$5/fig. Others feel the flea market is ebay with items priced at what they're worth or what you feel they're worth, like $10 USD-$20/fig.

Price your figs any way you want, but in the end, if you want to sell them, be ready to deal.

If I'm selling it is "make an offer, I don't want to take it home"

You can sell for what they are worth or you can sell quickly.

If you take a lot and price them for what they are worth, you'll sell some. If you want to sell everything, it has to be at a price that buyers perceive as below their value.

When I try to sell things I care about, I put a high price on them, and mostly take them home again, which is okay because I care about them! If it's old stuff I know I'll never use ever again and just want to cash in and free up the space, I price them at half what they're worth.

Schogun is correct that many folks shopping in the flea market think that bargains is what it is ABOUT, and will resent higher prices.

Or you can do something totally in the middle. All depends upon how badly you need the money or need to get rid of figures.

Flea markets are great examples of the price being what it is worth…to the seller and buyer at that moment.

What don't you like about ebay ? Ebay has the advantage of numbers of viewers – for something common like GW figures you will sell them for their correct value. With a flea market, you might price them too low (in which case you will lose out), fairly (in which case they might sell) or too high (when they probably won't sell).

My Historicon Flea Market story…

I had a very popular board game, out of print, still in shrinkwrap, for sale. This was one of my "sell it for what it's worth" items. Going price online was $35 USD-$40. I was selling it for $30. USD A buyer came to my table, picked up the game, was definitely interested, and said, "I'll give you $10 USD for it." I held at $30. USD He upped his offer to $15. USD I held firm, saying it was worth more than my asking price. He exclaimed rather loudly, "This is the flea market, not ebay!!!"

I rest my case. Good luck.

I'll be selling in the flea market Sat morning.

Everyone makes good points, like Schogun I have had past experiences in the flea market where a person would begin a rant/tirade because he felt I needed to sell an item at what to me was a ridiculous low price for something I was already selling at half its value. BTW I tend to research what an items is worth on say ebay or elsewhere then I reduce the cost by at least 30 to 50%. I also have learned to place a price on the item but have an idea have low I am willing to go in order to sell the item. If I have something that is hard to come by I let the potential buyer make me an offer. I have sold things for higher than I thought it was worth this way.

@ Marshal Mark, I used to sell items on e-bay in its early days and the experience was not too bad. However, ebay decided it wanted to tack on more and more fees and take more of a cut, after a while for someone like me that was at best a casual seller it became too much of a hassle. Add to the packing up of items, having buyers suddenly pull out at the last moment (leaving me with all the ebay fees btw,and I decided I just did not want the headache . I like the bluster and hustle of the HMGS flea market, aka Wally's Basement. I do understand that I will not get as good a price as I would had I placed the item on ebay. However, I do not think folks should feel they can just rip off the sellers either. I think Ratbone summed it up best with the flea market being what is the best price to the buyer and seller at the moment. Yes, I want to sell my stuff and not have to carry it back home. But I also want to make enough money to be able to finance spending in the dealer's room. Well I will see some of ya'll at Wally's Basement on Friday morning next week and we will see how things go. I will have a full table which I hope will be empty by the time the market closes.
