This is a first half of a small skirmish set in the Normandy bocage on the sidelines of Operation Cobra, we played last Friday. We will finish the game this week, so this is part one:

Good report. Sounds like a fun game. Your terrain is nice, except for the red "bushes."

Nicely laid out game! I like to see good scenery. It adds a lot to the quality of the game and shows that the person who laid the table out took time to make it look good. The cows are a nice touch too. Telegraph poles and crops also add that extra look.

We get so used to seeing WW2 things in black and white that the red bushes dont bother me….after all….who knows what some local had planted? It would all look much the same on black and white film so we could not tell.

Thank you guys!

The funny thing about the odd red part is that it only stands out on camera… IRL it just blends in to the eye.

@Mal: I started adding things like telegraph poles whenever possible a couple of years ago. As you say it adds a lot to the visual effect and in turn to the joy of the game!

Yes, I like to use telephone/telegraph poles. I bought a set at a model RR hobby shop, although I'm not sure they are of a type used in Europe.

Thanks again guys!

@donlowry: I have used the poles from a number a Tamiya 1:48 scale sets. They are meant to represent either the western European version or the Russian version. I have opted for the former since it only meant less insulators.

@Gothic Line: I always aim to please. If only to prove that 28mm offers at least as many options as the smaller scales!

Nice one….just building my own forces for some 28mm skirmish gaming in France 1944….what rules did you use?
Love the setup looks great!

Thanks a lot FM! I still need to finish both my Brits and SS for Normandy as well… Tommany projects at once! wink

We use the "The face of battle rules". I think they work really well for skirmish and especially so for this type of terrain! If you want to know a little more about them:
