With Attack around the corner in the UK, and having seen some fantastic Norman knights clobbering some of the kids at my school, I'm tempted to buy SAGA
However before I spend my hard earned cash on another set of rules, I need convincing. So please TMPers, sell this to me! Ta very much! |

Search for SAGA in messages on here. There are plenty of reviews (including one by me) and AARs, that should give you enough information to make a decision about buying. |

It's so much fun that at our club we have games that have more players than miniatures. |

See if you can get a copy of Wargames Illustrated #288 – there is a great write-up in there about SAGA. |

Fun, plain and simple. I already got Vikings, Scots, and a few Anglo Saxons, painting up my Trojan War warbands right now, as there are some sweet fan made variants already. Buy it. You will be happy. |

It is a very good game, requiring warbands from about 25 to 60 figures per warband (you could manage with 17 but you won't have much flexibility with your force, and you can fight with larger forces). You need to learn how to play, and there is a lot of subtlety. My only caveat it that is lies close to the 'game' end of simulation-game. If you are looking for 'historically accurate' it may not be for you; if you are looking for 'historical flavour' it may well be. I'm very happy with this – others, not so much. Some people grumble about the Saga dice (one set per faction, and not cheap). However, you can play the game with standard dice, make up your own from blank dice and the stickers available on the discussion group, or purchase the special dice, depending on how much you want to spend. |

Cool Thanks for the advice everyone so far! |

I haven't bought it yet, but fully intend to. Why? Because I listened to an interview with the designer, and he said quite simply that he wasn't trying to make a realistic simulation, he was trying to make a fun game. That's all I need to know! |

And he succeeded in my opinion! Billy Yank |

I love it. I've written up some of the reasons I like Saga on my blog: link I don't think you'll regret buying it. Cheers, Alan. |
