Can anyone recommend a manufacturer of 15mm 16th & 17th Light Dragoon flags. |

I don't believe the 17th carried it's colors, at least I don't have them for the Southern Campaign. But I could be wrong. But mine are 28mm. Don't know about 15mm. Others may disagree. TMP link TMP link Well this doesn't help you much does it? I always assume everyone does the AWI in 25/28mm. I need to get over that. |

My recollection is that neither the 16th or the 17th Dragoons carried their colours in the field. |

Sheet RB7 from the Flags For The Lads AWI range contains 3 flags for each of the 16th and 17th Light Dragoons. worgaimz.karoo.net/gbsd |

The issue of colours provides a bit of a conundrum for figure manufacturers – should they provide standard bearer figures for British light dragoon regiments, given that the flags were not used in theatre operations in North America. Or should the colour bearer be included in the range anyway? As we get ready to add British Light Dragoons to the Fife & Drum range, that is a question that needs to be answered. |

It's an excellent question to answer DAF. The figure was included, I painted and based it, and now need to add a flag. I really don't mind being incorrect with the addition of the flag if that's the case but if troops didn't carry them why make the figure. |

if that's the case but if troops didn't carry them why make the figure. Minifigs was famous (notorious) in The Earlies for making command packs with figures, like grenadiers of all nationalities, that should not have carried flags, but did. Roger, do not assume that sculptors or manufacturers know what they are doing! They always justified it with "Well, SOMOENE will want grenadier standard bearers! After all, the von Tinkle Grenadiers had
" Not you, Fritz! |

Indeed. Minifigs invented the "officer/musician/standard bearer/private advancing" formula that has become the industry standard and – unfortunately – has been copied all too slavishly since. More recent AWI ranges have actually moved past this and looked at what the troops actually wore/did – eg the Perry range does not have cornets for the 16th and 17th LD figures because they were not carried in the field. In fact, many British infantry units did not carry their colours in the field after the first year or so of the war. |

Just provide the extra flag bearer and let people decide for themselves. You are always going to get someone new to the period complaining that someone forgot to put the flag bearer in the package. Charge a little extra for the command pack. On the other hand if you get someone who is well versed in the period they would probably want to know why he is paying extra for a figure he wont use. I guess you can't win. As said above I don't think my Perry 17th Dragoons came with a flag bearer. But my Battle Honours British Legion Horse did. But I bet the Perry one dosen't. I need to replace those with Perry's. |

Ralllynow – the Perry BL pack has a sergeant instead. Worst example I ever came across was the Old Glory 15mm AWI British Grenadier pack (in the days when OG themsevles still owned the range). Apart from 16 of the 50 figures being "command", they included no less than 8 standard bearers!!! When I pointed out to the UK rep that these figures were useless as they were historically inaccurate, I was told "It's what the punters want. Just do what I do and throw away the figures you don't need." Sure – give me a staff discount and I'll do that, too
