Hacked around with playing Starship Troopers using Tomorrow's War over the weekend. Read about it here.

Interesting thoughts on the conflict, which I will keep in mind when I get around to doing similar. I keep forgetting how few figures you can play TW with.I've been multipurposing my figures for several different rule sets-I like versatility!

It certainly was a much smaller game than our typical SST games used to be. But similar in size to playing with the basic set.

We didn't do anything fancy. No tunneling, no air units, no power armor. Just LAMI and Warriors. It has potential, but its going to be a bit of work to rate the full army lists for both the MI and the bugs.

Very cool. I am just starting off a SST project in 15mm using the Mongoose rules. Were you using their 28mm figures? Have you got any pictures?!

Thanks
Chris

The MI did okay, but each round of fire triggered a charge reaction from the bugs, pulling them in closer.

That doesn't sound right. No matter how many reactions a model takes, it can only make one Reaction Move during a turn (per page 42), and if you get no reactions at all you still have the end-of-turn move option. The Bugs should have been closing at 12" a turn, tops – the lesson of TW is that bullets are faster than feet. All their reactions would do is maybe let them scramble into cover if there was any available when they first came under fire each turn.

OTOH, if the MI were taking a lot of reactions early on to shoot, they lose 1" of movement (as well as the die of firepower) for each, which would limit their ability to back off later on.

Thanks Rich. It was the beer. Yeah, that's the ticket!

We were dropping firepower for each attack (and subsequent reaction) by the MI, but may not have handled reaction movement 'by the book'.

Have to play with that some more. Might mean putting the bugs back to "Hard to Kill" (D8). It sure lets them stand up to the firepower attacks.

Lord knows you do have a load of SST figs! grin Nice to see them nack on the tabletop. I'm curious to see how this works out using TW.

Thanks,

John

Glad you had fun with the rules, Ray!

I posted on your blog, too!

Best wishes,

Shawn.

Thanks Shawn!

Check back periodically. We'll have some more SST updates posted to the site.

Hey Ray, great stuff! It was fun gaming with the old SST models again.

Yes it was! I spent some time yesterday creating preliminary stats for CHAS and the Marauder suits. It will be interesting to see how they play out on the table.
