Can anyone tell me how much difference there is between Red Star BMP1-2, and the BTR-70, and Sloppy Jalopy Armor. I know the Sloppy Jalopy prices are cheaper but that doesn't mean better. And I know where Red Star got their armor from but I have never seen them close up. |

I can't comment on Sloppy Jalopy as I don't have any of those but the models from Red Star are beauties with great detail- highly recommended. I have tanks and 3 different APC's and they are all good models. |

How do they compare to the Red Star miniatures in size and what about Mongrel miniatures. |

I bought them to work with RedStar and they are perfect. I have some mongrel figures and they are good as well. |

Sloppy Jalopy is nominally 1/56. The HLBS stuff sold through Red Star is nominally 1/48. In theory there should be a considerable difference between two models of teh same type. I use a variety of 1/48, 1/50 and 1/56 vehicles but perhaps I'm not that fussy. |

to be fair if the minis are ACTUALLY to scale the difference between a 7.635 meter long BMP-1 in 1:43 scale (177.5 millimeters long) 1:48 (159 millimeters long) 1:50 (152.7 millimeters long) and 1:56 (136.3 millimeters long) is up to your own tastes, and that assumes that they are PRECISELY to marked scale. IF they are painstakingly exact to scale, the difference in length between the 1:48 and 1:56 scale versions on that BMP-1 SHOULD be about 20 mm (or 3/4" difference
) One is about 5.4" long and the other 6.25" long. Width and height differences are to similar factors, but less noticeable than length. (and lets be honest, your miniatures are on bases of varying thicknesses anyway, which can affect your height needs.) Sign me up though on wanting to see those two vehicle makers stuff side by side. I'd also want to see it against the diecast "1:43" BTR-60pb and BRDM-1 toys I have from Russia that are more like 1:49.8 scale (BRDM-1) and 1:48.9 (BTR) I have diecast cars that I use that are nowhere near stated scales. I have 1:43 diecast cars that are closer to 1:48 and 1:50 scale that are more like 1:53-1:55ish. I have a (poorly cast, and therefore rejected from my table) 28mm mini that is representative of the size moderns I use on my carkeys. When I go shopping I compare my hypothetical purchase to the mini and make a decision based on that. |

I will throw up some pics on my blog in a bit, then link them here. I have the HLBS BMP-2s from both Sloppy Jalopy and HLBS (and I believe the Red Star vehicles are the same as the Sloppy Jalopy ones
) I will throw a couple of other vehicles in for comparison. |

COOL! Looking forward to it |

Here are a few pictures
. BMP-2s from Sloppy Jalopy and HLBS (apologies for an unpainted model)
FWIW I find the HLBS BMP-2 is substantially larger than the 1/56 Sloppy Jalopy kits. But they are both great kits – so go nuts either way! Some more pictures, with some BRDMs, BTRs and tanks on our blog at this post: link Thanks for looking! Greg |

VERY NICE, and i see that the difference in sizes is about what I expected. Looks like i'm gonna be buying some BMPs! |

Looks Sloppy Jalopy is the winner, plus they're cheaper. |

Whatever scale you chose, you will love using the BMPs – Sloppy Jalopy has a solid lineup – and so does HLBS. This discussion has inspired me to get off my arse and finish my HLBS stuff
