I'm interested in the point about it being those closest who complain about the new venue being farther away. I think there's a lot to that – people who had an hour's drive complain about it being three hours, while those who come a long distance aren't bothered by 14 hours rather than 12. I note that, whenever I've heard someone complain about having to have a badge to go into the dealer's hall, they are usually local. They don't see it as a weekend convention so much as a morning's shopping. I used to drive nine hours from Lancaster from Toronto, so I'll not complain that Fredericksburg is farther from my current home in New York than Lancaster. |

I will be there. Looking forward to see all my friends from all over. Love playing some new games. Rolling some dice. Drinking a few beverages and meeting new friends. Looking forward to see everyone at H-Con |

If anyone is coming down the Pa turnpike the route we take is. Pa turnpike to Breezewood Pa I70 towards DC Exit on 522 towards Berkley springs WV and Winchester Va. 522 will merge with 17 in Winchester Follow 17 until you hit 95 --go south on 95 to the very first exit (about a mile)-- at end of ramp take a right --at next light take another right and follow that through a huge strip mall full of endless Stores and restaurants staight into the convention center. Very easy and scenic and all the DC/Baltimore traffic avoided. Just make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the route 17 markers!! Regards Russ Dunaway |

I'll be coming down from Massachusetts. The last time relatives of mine answered a battle cry from the Civil War they also went to Virginia. One is still there buried at Cold Harbor. |
| Bowman | 11 Jul 2012 7:59 a.m. PST |
I won't be going as the move south has put it past my driving comfort zone. Hope the attendees have a great time (and spend $$). I'll see you all at Fall-In. |

First to fight for the right, And to build the Nation's might, And The Army Goes Rolling Along. Proud of all we have done, Fighting till the battle's won, And the Army Goes Rolling Along. Then it's hi! hi! hey! The Army's on its way. Count off the cadence loud and strong; For where'er we go, You will always know That The Army Goes Rolling Along. The Army will be there in full force! |

link Over hill, over dale, We will hit the dusty trail, And those Caissons go rolling along. Up and down, in and out, Counter march and left about, And those Caissons go rolling along, For it's "hie-hie-hee", In the Field Artillery, Shout out your numbers loud and strong, For wher-e'er we go, You will always know, That those Caissons go rolling along. Just so people know where the song's tune came from in case they don't already!

I will be guarding central Indiana against all enemies foreign and domestic. |
Old Glory | 11 Jul 2012 9:19 p.m. PST |
"Dangerously organized" --not really when you figure it is just a four hour drive for us -- next week we will be sending two 24 foot large trucks a 10 man crew, etc and this way it will not be into the "unknown"--it is best to go before if one can, to see possible problems and solutions. Once again --at this point very impressed with the location. regards Russ Dunaway |

Phil D, Wish I was able to make it. I am really going to try to put it in the plan for next year. I will need a scouting report from you. See you at Cold Wars, Clif |

I try not to leave comments on TMP topics that aren't specifically related to figures, terrain, or very specific history, in order to steer clear of the psychodrama that often seems to emerge, but this topic put such a big smile on my face as I was reading it from top to bottom, that I had to say something! I truly wish I'd been able to fit attending Historicon into my family's schedule this Summer, but unfortunately I couldn't. Still, a week before starting, the convention has already put a little bit more fun into my life, just from reading this topic! I hope everyone going to Fredericksburg to run games, play games, sell stuff, buy stuff, eat, drink, and be merry in the company of old and new friends, has a safe roundtrip and a fantastic time. I really wish my family and I could be there with you. The only branch that was in the US at the time of the Civil War, fought on the other side, but I wish I could have rallied to Virginia this year. For now my own battlecry will be a paraphrase of the last line of the Passover seder: Next Year At Historicon! |

To paraphrase John Sergeant Wise, just as John Brown descended upon Harper's Ferry I shall come upon Virginia like a clap of thunder out of a clear sky! Of course, I already live in Virginia, so I'm pretty much already descended. :) |

It adds 3 hours to my drive from Buffalo, but the 155'th NY will be there. Just a bit more tired and road weary, but still ready to fight :) Actually – it costs me an extra vacation day and a half since I usually work a half day and drive down and then rather than drive home sunday, I am heading out and spending monday on the road. Edit: The 155'th NY had a rough time in Virginia, if I recall. Hopefully it will be better for me. ;) |

After many a year invading Lancaster, finally a reverse commute to Historicon. I hope no one is knocked out by a further distance and I never minded driving north 3 hours to be part of this great event except when it snowed at other cons. It's nice for once in many years that it is not so far away. Subject to change as we all know. So "Northern Virginians, we are coming from Ox Hill to defend Fredericksburg". In a time warped sort of way. Have a blast everyone! |
