I've just posted a wee tutorial on my method for making a hex mat. It's for Commands & Colors in 15mm, but can be used for any other rules that require such a thing.

Now *that* is mighty pretty. For mine I did something similar, but using felt from fabric store. I also marked the corners of the hex only to reduce the visual inpact of having lines on the material. Works for me, is 6x9 foot and all for under $20. USD |
