Hey all, I'm looking for suggestions on where to get thin metal strips in various lengths and widths to use on my scratchbuilding projects. I'm thinking of something like a source of sheet metal strips thin enough to work with easily on 15mm models that I can use to guide blades or scribing tools. I'm thinking of strips between 1/16th of an inch to 1-2 inches or so.

Model railway shops will have brass sheets or strips – 0.4 to 0.6mm thick rings a bell, 25-50mm (1-2") wide is standard and 300mm/12"+ long. You'll probably have to cut the length to fit, and I don't know how narrow they go – again, you may have to cut.

You can also find them in D-or L-shaped cross-section, as well as flat sheets. E-bay will have them too.

Cost? Off the top of my head, maybe a couple of quid for something the size of a 300mm/12" ruler?

K&S metals is the company name in the US. I've seen brass, steel, and aluminum from them, in a wide variety of shapes, thicknesses and lengths.

For that matter, a 6" machinist's rule is very nice, too. Those are usually spring-tempered steel, so they will flex but not bend.

I think k&s has what I need! Thanks for the suggestions guys!

They have a bunch of brass, tin, and aluminum sheets, tubes, rods, and strips for modeling.

They also carry a lot of tools you'd need for cutting, bending, shaping, etc. etc. etc.
