I must have a thing about bases. Those bases look AWFUL. Make each figure look like he's standing on his own little mountain! IMHO beautiful figures ruined by awful bases.

Are those Conquest?

I agree about the bases. I'd at least paint the black edges to match the table, and reducing the height wouldn't hurt.

I like the whole thing. Richard

The most beautifull base is the one you do not see.

Yep.

But nice page just the same.

Thanks, Armand!

Soemtimes less is more. The bases are very well done and so are the figures. But the bases are so "busy" it distracts you from the figure I find.

I understand that the bases are not the greatest, but the figures and terrain are just stunning! They more than make up for the bases!

Those figures are from Galloping Major Wargames out of the UK. Lance is a great fellow to deal with and his figures are absolutely amazing. Here is his website.

Absolutely love the detailed painting of the figures. Don't see the draw that folks find with what I call the Games Workshop style base, meaning always leaving the base width showing as if each piece were some statue. I prefer to have the bases blend in with whatever terrain I am using and even when I use GW bases, I paint and flock the sides as well. But that's me.

Actually some are Galloping Major, but I recognize many Conquest in there too, Whitman.

Must be a night assault. :-)

I get the idea of those bases – to pick up the figures so you don't handle them. Still, they are a bit distracting. Nice stuff though.

There is such a thing as "too busy", and that is just what those bases are.

And too many of the faces are "meat cutting chart" stuff.

There is far too much trying too hard to show how much the painter has mastered some technique or other, and not enough trying to get a realistic looking figure.
Sorry, but I just do not like them.

I like them, nice painting. And the terrain is very good, too.

He's a really good painter and has brought out the character in the figures very well. Lovely work.

Thanks Hitman, for your kind words, well spotted, the more close up shots are our figures, and A Twiningham, you're right too, there are quite a lot of Conquest figures in there too.

After years of having thin bases and having to repaint and repair figures as a result of handling, I have switched over to thicker bases. John does have a point about them being Busy. It pulls your eyes away from the figure.

Rallynow06 Jul 2012 1:55 p.m. PST

Yep, bases are too thick and busy. But that's just me. I like bases that disappear. Very bad lighting making it hard to fully see the figures.
