Still,
. just as long as the future of the new Trident is assured, eh? I just love paying for stuff that we will never use
----------------- Big boys toys that let you sit at the top table really and really political rather tham military weapons if that isn't an oxymoron – rather like at a lower level the desire of certain countries to have aircraft carriers. |

If Pontius Pilate's Bodyguard can quietly dissappear why not any other regiment? Remember Parliament has abhorred a standing army since Charles I! |

If Pontius Pilate's Bodyguard can quietly dissappear why not any other regiment? Remember Parliament has abhorred a standing army since Charles I! -------------- Well actually it was Parliament that created the New Model Army, the first professional standing army in British history – after the Restoration it was the Cavalier parliament that disbanded the NMA, albeit that the former supporters of the Parliament cause in the new Parliament feared the King would use a standing army to restore divine right and the forelock tuckers on the King's side hated the NMA for its role in forcing through a degree of social revolution etc. Of course soon after the Royal Warrant to create a new Army was issued, albeit that said army later then metaphorically kicked the Stuarts in the proverbials by effectively refusing to fight against William of Orange when he landed to take the throne. As said, for all their image, Tory govts have never done the Armed Forces any favours. |
