That looks pretty fun. Glad they did it animation style cause the roughneck series was great. |

well, that was an
interesting
jump my post made. Heh. Probably my fault for having both tabs open. Anyway- this looks like it could have potential, but
we'll see. I am, shall we say, less than completely faithful in Mr. van Dien's cinematic prowess? Heh. - Monk |

Speaking of which, I just saw SST 3 (live action) on TV last night. I didn't even know there was a #2. |
Schogun | 03 Jul 2012 3:57 a.m. PST |
#3 isn't bad. Definitely skip #2. No Casper, and grossly re-uses scenes from #1. |

I didn't know there was a 3. I wish I didn't know there was a 2. |

"#3 isn't bad." Yeah, I just LOVE the singing Sky Marshall :) |

I was going to pass until I heard that the guy from Appleseed was directing it. Now I am interested. I have no great love for the Starship trooper movies. The first was all right albeit annoying at times and I was strongly advised to never watch the rest. |

"Yeah, I just LOVE the singing Sky Marshall :)" One of the best parts of the movie. |

Another movie series where the books are better. Here's hoping the latest one does the RH story line some justice. |

Nothing can be worse than 2 and 3. |

The only real issue with #2 is that it never had 'the bug menace' constant threat. In fact, I went through most of the flick wondering what this had to do with ST
#3 was fun. NOT good, but fun.

The trailer reminded me more of a collection of between game cinema shots for a computer game. Neat that they took some elements of The Roughneck Chronicles into it, seems there was some inspiration from the Mongoose games Pathfinders in there too. The CGI animation certainly gives them some freedom to give it an updated look rather than re-use the old props from the first movie (which have been handed down to a number of other movies). I didn't think SST2 was as bad as everyone thought it was. It was more like Alien was to Aliens in terms of scale, just not as good as Alien. I really hated SST3. I loved Roughneck Chronicles though. It will be a wait and see for this. |

meh, I've seen video games with better CGI. Looks kinda lame, and I love SST. |

Looks like it has some promise. I hope this inspires some animation studio to finish the last four episodes of Roughneck Chronicles

Yeah I've seen much better computer game graphics

I didn't know Shinji Aramaki was attached. That made me less interested, the man can't seem to tell a coherent story. There's some interesting sci-fi situations in the trailer though. But on the third hand the dialogue in the trailer was aggressively stupid. Just wait until some videos of the cool stuff pop up on Youtube. |

I liked the Appleseed films, so this will be worth a watch. Cheers, |

But on the third hand the dialogue in the trailer was aggressively stupid. Like most of the dialogue in the book was all that great
"Come on you apes, do you want to live forever?" Yeah, I know where the line really comes from. Doesn't make it any less aggressively stupid. |
| wolfgangbrooks | 03 Jul 2012 7:56 p.m. PST |
Well, I don't care if it was from the book or not. The book was and is, in my opinion very over-rated. And the picky obsession many people seem to have with "getting it right" goes over my head. And anyway, I'm talking Syfy late night movie stupid. |
John Leahy | 04 Jul 2012 5:11 p.m. PST |
I agree about the book being over rated. I also loved the Roughneck's Chronicles. It's what the movies could have been. Imagine that with better graphics. I'll probably check out the new one. Thanks, John |

"#3 isn't bad." Yeah, I just LOVE the singing Sky Marshall :)
The Sky Marshall's singing is the only thing good about the movie. Otherwise, it's so terrible I've seen syfy originals that were emmy award winners by comparison. And I love Roughneck's Chronicles. just watched it again this week and finally got my ass on Amazon and bought a copy of the Tophet Campaign, the only DVD I was missing from the collection. I'd love to see that series redone with modern animation. Spotting little errors all through it just gets at me too much sometimes. (Like all the invisible weapons they're carrying! and the magically disappearing backpacks
never reloading and never stop firing
.No burst firing
.the list goes on.) |
Goose666 | 12 Jul 2012 4:35 a.m. PST |
Hmm well i like SST.. so will definitely watch it. |
| commanderroj | 14 Jul 2012 8:28 a.m. PST |
I like SST, but it doesnt make #2 & 3 any better. I turned off half way through (if that far) |
