Anyone here miniature game using game boards? If so, how big do the hexes need to be? Thanks! |

Well, I only have a couple of the 12mm Minifigs tanks, the largest of which is a Pz IVH, and it is approx. 2" long including the barrel length. I would think that 3" hexes would work fine and not look too crowded. |

4" hexes seem to be the de facto standard size. link |

What Margard said. To some degree, it depends on your representational scale, since that will determine how many minis need to fit in each hex. Doug |

I use Kallistra hexes, 10cm/4". Work fine for 2mm, 6mm, 15mm, 20mm and 25mm so I would imagine they would work for 10mm. Depends what you envisage your stacking limits are going to be. Trying to jam multiples of the larger vehicles into one hex just looks silly. I find that minis games played on hexes work better as area movement games (think Lost Battles, Square Bashing, PBI2) than boardgame style zillion hex type systems (e.g. Panzer Leader or Squad Leader, although smaller scenarios of the latter are quite feasible). |

As infantry stands can be adjusted, the real limiting factor are vehicles. Measure your largest one and you have your answer. Of course, I don't think that a barrel projecting a little over is much of a problem. The vehicle body size will determine your smallest hex. |

The vehicle body size will determine your smallest hex. And how many you want to be able to fit in each hes. |

Most 10mm tanks fit comfortably on a 1x2" base. |
