Saw this film lats night (having bought the DVD a while ago at Morrisons who always seem to have a lot of Chinese films!). Pretty good though perhaps over-hyped in terms of the battle scenes (did they have brens in 1927?) But the uniforms etc look reasonable with bodyguard units wearing the special leather pouches for Mauser Bolo ammo, some KMT troops in Adrian helmets etc). And quite a good intro (given that its made in the PRC) to the complex politics of the time since it doesn't portray the KMT as cardboard cut out villains!

Thanks for the heads up.

The Bren's daddy was available at the time

Shipments starting in 1926, but I'm not sure it would be available in great numbers until after the northern expedition.
