Reminds me a lot of Martin Scorsese's "Gangs of New York" (2002) as it is set at the same time and place. In spite of having Daniel Day-Lewis, Cameron Diaz and Leonardo De Caprio, the movie was terrible.

Given that the NYPD at the time was governed by the theory tat it takes a thief to catch a thief, it will be interesting how the show handles the history. History is seldom neat, tidy, or pretty.

Very good I thought. Good period feel to it. Takes place after the 1864 draft riots. Could be wrong but appears it may not be a simple "crime of the week" type show, which would be just fine to me, I like shows with more complexity to the plot. Omemin's comment seems to be on target, at one point the cops fire first, then announce who they are.
