Which ruleset would you recommend for Bronze Age wargaming, having 28mm figures in mind? Meaning not just a suitable ruleset, but also the necessary army lists being available. |

I would recommend War & Conquest, though I'm not sure how many army lists are available for that period. Here is the link to the army list section of their forum: link |

Doesn't look like W&C has any Bronze Age lists out yet. |

What scale of conflict? Mass battles? Skirmish? Doug |

I would vote for Holy Hack and Homeric Hack. Both include army lists. They give a great period flavor and are very straightforward to run. WAB Chariot Wars is a good supplement with two caveats. The first is the author's use of the "new chronology", this may not be bothersome if you are just looking to push lead around the table. The second is that it takes very much of a tool kit approach. Expect to have to roll your own for army lists for some of he prominent players of the period. The troops are there in different lists, it is just a question of picking them out and putting hem together. |

Another vote for Holy Hack and Homeric Hack (I tried to get Phil to call it Homo Hack but he would not go for it). Both work off the basic system for Classical Hack and are open to many modifcations or home rules as you see fit. VR James Mattes |

Like Hail Caesar, chariots seem to work well. Lists are given, but author encourages one to do their own research. |

Ogdenlulimus: That is good to hear; I am close to playing my first Hail Caesar game with a Trojan War scenario. I was thinking the movement for chariots may seem more fun than the way movement is for WAB's Chariot Wars (which I've played a couple of times). I also have Redoubt's Before the Gates of Troy, but haven't tried it yet. Dean |

We've had some great Greek vs Persian and Greek vs Greek games using Armati 2. |

Another vote for Hail Caesar, the bronze age lists are published. |

For Skirmish, Gang Warfare in the Age of Bronze, or Lord of the Rings STrategy Battle Games (all units / stats are around, but you have to put them together as historical equivilents). WAB Chariot Warfare for a "bigger Battle" feel. DBA for a massive battle feel, but using light chariots as light cavalry, and heavy chariots as heavy cav. Also want to try Redoubt's trojan war rules, but no present impetus to try them. |

Bill which lists are you looking for? You can find a War & Conquest Mycenaean vs New Kingdom Egyptian battle report here link Chariots operate differently to other rulesets in War & Conquest, so this report focusses on that. Army lists (and in this case the army rosters) for both are already online and once I am back from holiday we will be finishing off(in no particular order)Mitanni, Sumerian and Hittite as these are all alomost complete. I will take a stab at Northern Europe list from the same period once I find the relevant books (all currently in storage) and then go back to the Mycenaean list and expand it further for the Trojan War (one of my favourite periods/stories) later on (as I have a bunch of medieval lists I want to finish). Anyway, back to the point, let me know the lists and I can slide them in to the 'to do' list. Kind regards Rob Broom scarabminiatures.com warandconquest.co.uk |

Come to think of it, you may want to look into the Kadesh refights from the SOA battle day (last year? or was it the year before?) with various rules systems. Doug |

Kadesh BattleDay(April 2011) Catching up with this thread a bit late (I thought it was going to be about Bronze Age warfare, not _Late Bronze Age
which is somewhat different: 'the age of the chariot', indeed!)
Re Late Bronze Age, and the Kadesh BattleDay, I played Lost Battles and Hail Caesar
and contributed to the scenario development for the Armati game and to the design of 'Call it Qids', the SoA boardgame that emerged from some of the brainstorming with Ian Lowell. A lot of the 'flavour' comes in the scenario design. Of course none of the games are remotely figure-size sensitive. Then again, I can't think of a single example of anything in Late Bronze Age warfare or wargaming in the period that would be any different because you had '28mm figures in mind'.
