Those British light dragoons are beautiful. They look like Connoisseur.

I did too. Although the spectacle is amazing, it looks like overcrowding hurt the game in several areas. Waterloo is a very congested battle anyway; but the decision to bypass Hougomont put even more troops in the remaining area.

This is a very well written battle report. An entertaining read and wonderful pictures

Do you chaps think it was a mistake so send so much cavalry over to face the Prussians? By the time they make their presence felt, the French can often have trashed the allied center. If you have the heavy cavalry available, to exploit a gap or to hit routers, then you have clearly won the game.

I find it a boring battle as the Allies, unless the French make a serious mistake. Allowing the allies to come off the ridge line, and hit the flank of the French attack, makes for an interesting battle.

No criticism here. I enjoyed the entire report. Hard to beleive I was at the WHC in the 80's. Looking at the current battles, seems like yesterday. Great stuff, as always.

Oddly enough, last night I printed off the OOB for Salamanca, drafted for 'In The Grand Manner.' How old is that?

Great pictures and an entertaining and informative write-up. However, the overcrowding and the utterly distorted groundscale somewhat ruin it for me.

.. and I shake my head at the last comment. Sweet Jesus, give me strength. Historically, it WAS a crowded field. You guys at the WHC have kept a terrific tradition with the large scale wargaming. Great stuff.

Amazing all the way around.

Guys,

Thanks for the feedback, this battle is great fun to re-enact and has proved a firm favourite. The number of troops can look extremely congested however it doesn't feel like this on the day. The majority of the photo's are taken to show the figures and therefore show points where it may appear congested. Troops still deploy into their historical formations and duke it out.
Chortle – Yes they are Connoisseur, although they have been "tweaked" a bit.

I am just glad people like these things.

Once again my thanks go to Paul Goodwin (Reigate Wargames Club) for this superb write up.

Absolutely amazing!

Really enjoyed your aar. I really liked the mass of troops and think the congestion issues simulated the somewhat compact battle Waterloo was.
