Some absolute bounder has nicked my Osprey on Russian Infantry, so I'd be very grateful if anyone would be kind enough to explain the colouring system for Russian infantry shako popmpoms circa 1805-07. Did the colours indicate companies within battalions/regiments or battalions within regiments, or were they simply coloured in a regimental colour that was the same throughout the regiment? Von Winterfeldt's link is good, but there is a bit to get through there. I have the Haythornethwaite Osprey handy, and it states that it is coloured by battalion within the regiment, with white for the first battalion, yellow for the second and red for the third, with a regimentally coloured centre. Grenadiers had a white pompom, and the NCO's were quartered, with the side quarters being white and the "upper and lower quarters mixed black and orange" which to me always just looks orange. |

Cheers Plutarch, Yes, it was a lot to wade through, but it's another dull day in work, so I found everything I was looking for, but thank you anyway. :) |
