Anyone else having problems with Baccus cavalry? A get a bag of figs and I already have a pile of broken off tails sitting on the bottom, and then more break off at the slightest touch of an X acto knife. Then there are the figures that are unusable because of how easily the horse's legs collapse and/or snap. It just seems like that out of each bag I've got a solid 30-40% of figs that have broken tails or are unusable due to collapsing or snapping. I feel like a significiant amount of money spent on cav is money poorly spent. Does Adler make a better horse?

I haven't had problems with Baccus tails. I have found that the legs on the horses are very thin. I tend to leave the pouring sprue that runs between the base and the horse's belly in place for strength. I have repaired a few by drilling and pinning a short wire l,e a carousel horse. Once painted, based, and textured it tends to disappear.

Out of a few hundred strips in total, probably 3-400 figures, I've had I think maybe a dozen horses come apart at the legs, and no problems with tails falling off that I can remember.

I have both Adler and Baccus and while I usually prefer the Adler cavalry since to me, the Baccus horses always look a bit small, Adler is actually a lot more fragile than Baccus. I've found Baccus to be pretty robust although I have snapped a few off at the ankles (fetlock?) trimming flash. Never a horse tail problem that I can recall.

Can be a design, mould or casting problem but unless the manufacturer is told there's a problem they may not realise it.Its not as if they mail order themselves figures on a regular basis or even paint large batches of production castings.

I've never had any problems myself. Sounds like you may have a bad batch. Contact Peter at Baccus, I'm sure he will sort you out.

I've only experience with colonial and late 19th century stuff (which I use to support the colonial range) … I haven't had a problem.

I find the legs can be fragile, (necessarily for realism), so I also leave the pouring sprue. Never had a problem with tails. In fact with several hundred Baccus horses, I have never lost one to casting problems.

79th PA, what is your source. Direct from Baccus or via an agent. They have travelled a long way to get to OHIO. It may be a storage problem in USA or even damage at customs???
My own experience is like many others. The odd figure maybe but not on the scale you are experiencing.

I get 'em from Scale Creep (US agent). Considering the scale (no pun intended) of the problem I have with their cavalry, I am quite surprised that I am the only one having these issues, which seems to speak well for the line as a whole.

Years ago when I was making my Bavarian army using Baccus, I had about 60-70% of the Jager figures broken or broke during mounting to paint. All at the same location. (The feet.) I contacted Dave from Old Rivertown Hobbies (RIP) and he contacted Baccus. Within a week or two I had replacement figures. I've had no trouble since then.

My guess is you probably received a bad batch. Contact Peter at Baccus or the location you purchased the figures and I'm pretty sure they would help you.

I have a lot of Baccus miniatures and only very few of the horses have ever lost their tails.
I would guess you had a bad batch or a damaged bag.
Same recommendation, if possible contact Peter at Baccus.
He is a gentleman, so I am sure he will be able to fix the problem.

Is it possible that you have just dropped on a duff batch? Have you raised the issue with Scale Creep and/or Baccus? Have always found Pete Berry to be pretty good wrt to quality control in the past

I've had bayonets fall off alot. And the odd germinc tribesman draco standard. Never had a cavalry problem.
