I suspect it is more for show than for a real battle, but miscalculations by both sides are possible, and may result in minor skirmishes. Supposedly too, the Syrians have stopped helping to keep the Kurds under wraps on their side of the border, which isn't making the Turks too happy. |

The Turks bombed PKK Kurdish camps in northern Iraq on the same day that their aircraft was shot down |

Maybe if they'd mobilised their Leopard 2's they would have shown real intent ?? |

Turkey's main weapon: Article 5 of the NATO treaty. |

The key section of the treaty was Article V. This committed each member state to consider an armed attack against one state to be an armed attack against all states. Yeah, being able to call Uncle Sam for help has been Europe's preferred solution to territory disputes for the last 100 years. |

I heard on the news today that they are moving their units up to the border, and have declared that any Syrian countermove of units towards the border, even though still in Syrian territory, will be viewed as a "provocative action". Seems to me the Turks are the provocateurs in this scenario, and in the low-flying pass over Syrian territory, as well, which resulted in the Phantom being shot down. I'm no Syrian apologist, and think Bashar should be deposed with a surgical drone strike, but it appears Turkey is the one escalating tensions in the region to me. Supposedly, their leader has designs on deposing Bashar, either with or without NATO's assistance, and then gaining control over Lebanon, and sway over Jordan as well. Apparently, he is trying to create a Sunni empire in the region, if the reports are accurate. |

A Turk – Syrian dust up might be interesting for gaming purposes
Don't think it will happen in reality. Unless Turkey wants to take a shot at another Ottoman Turk Empire
But with all the continuing problems in that region
with the Kurds in the middle, who knows
