Help, I'm confused! Re Adler Figures, for 1809 Saxons….What is better, Austrian Nap guns or French? Which limbers?
Which figures for artillerists-SYW Prussians, early Nap Prussians?
Which for teams & riders?
Thanks :)

Hello there,
For Saxon Artillery use the AWI crews perfect match and French artillery equipment, FNE 5C for limber, FEE1 for ridden team FNE 16 for unridden same goes for SYW Prussian.

For limbers I would use Prussian ones – as for artillery some seemed to be that the horse artillery was already equipped with shakos, here a Sauerweid plate depicting Saxon artillery in 1809, hope that helps, as well as Saxon infantry, please not the big differences to 1806

There is another immage showing the train in broad brimmed cylinders.

I would recommend to invest some money and to obtain

Hemman, Thomas : Der Krieg in Sachsen 1809 dargestellt von Geißler und Sauerweid

There are numerous colour prints, an excellent publication which deserves support.

Dear Robert
Have a look extracts from my book on Saxon Artillery

You will notice the modernisation in 1810. The old uniforms were still used in 1809.

The Saxons had their own guns with a side crank unique to them. I would consider Austrian or Prussian guns rather than French as they used the Richtsmachine.

Thank You Dr. Summerfield,
I did have a look at your book a few days back, which was most helpful. I did go with Austrian guns. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the 'old uniforms' in the mail, and shall enjoy painting them! My thanks again (and to all)for your help.

Dear Robert
The gun carriages were painted with a wood stain that would approximate creosote so should be black with a hint of brown.

An Excellent thing to know! Just curious- Is there a surviving example anywhere?

You can see surviving guns at Dresden some on reproduction carriages and at the Kremlin among the gun tubes there. The best example is at Copenhagen.

Thanks. Good excuse to detour there next year. I wonder if my wife will agree…

Can I assume the limbers had the same stain?

Yes the limbers had the same stain.
