I know they sell scribing tools at the hardware store, and that X-acto knives can be used for this as well, but just curious to see what other tools, and/or techniques people use for scribing styrene, PVC, ABS, and other plastics?

Also, any tips for ensuring nice, even, straight, and/or curved lines?

Metal rulers, dental picks, X-acto knives, starting slowly, and patience seem logical, but imagine there may be some other useful techniques out there I haven't thought of.

Have any of you used the carbide-tipped scribing tools for this?

Also, what about those rotary-powered scribing tools, like are used for engraving ID numbers in glass, metal, on tools, etc?

Yes i use Carbide tipped scribes and scrapers, they require a gentle hand as they tend to dig in. Pretty much the same goes for dremel tools.
