The 200th anniversary of the great events of the Napoleonic Wars affords wargamers the opportunity to track events with real time elapses between events and battles. In this vein: ‘Shocking news from the East is now beginning to reach the salons and courts of Western Europe. It is believed that Napoleons Grande Armee crossed the Niemen into the territory of the Russian Empire a few days ago. Initial accounts suggest the crossing was unopposed. This invasion of the soil of Holy Russia appears to have irrevocably committed the French Emperor to war with Russia, ending months of speculation as his armies built up in Prussia and the Duchy of Warsaw. Official bulletins in Paris confidently predict a short campaign in Western Russian leading to the Czar returning to the Napoleonic fold. Certainly the Grande Armee is unmatched, in modern times, for sheer size and logistical support. With hundreds of thousands of cattle and dozens of military wagon trains, the Grande Armee will certainly never starve

You should do this as a blog – illustrated by "on the spot reporters" images of troops in the field with regular updates. I think it would be very cool. |
