Is there a collector's market for old Avalon Hill and SSI microcomputer wargames? The AH stuff is on cassette and the SSI games are on 5" (?) floppies. I was going through some old boxes and found Tanktics, Midway, Breakthrough in the Ardennes, etc. Just wondering if anyone actually collected these old games.

What are 5" floppies. Will they fit in the CD slot?

I have found that there is very little if any interest in old computer games, especially as collectibles. I get that type of thing fairly often in my auctions at Genghis Con and Tacticon and unless they are bundled together with something cool they just go back as no sales to the seller. Unless someone still has an ancient computer that still operates there is just no way to run those games anymore unless you are willing to make some hardware investments.

depends on what they are for. search for retro computer clubs and you can find dealers on such things.

I sold a ton of stuff for my atari 800 via ebay. Guy was really happy as I had some rare stuff in there. Funny thing was he didn't want the machine or components- those he had, just the software.

Actually, unless it's yet another brain pfffft, I believe they were 5.25" and they were so malleable you might just get them into a CD slot…

I learned Pascal using 5.25" floppies. OK, now ask what Pascal is…

I have several old Avalon Hill titles, including Tanktics, on cassette tape for the TRS-80. I wonder if they would still be readable after all these years.

Unless you were very careful about how you stored them they will no longer work. Nothing to worry about though, almist all those olf games can be found on the web and downloaded, getting them onto a trs-80 would be a trick but thete is most likely a pc emulator gor it too.

A giant hoax perpetrated on several years worth of CS majors.
