Hi am a newbie to the genre of 28mm Colonial Exploration and Hunting. I've picked out the miniatures I'm going to be using – North Stars wonderful Hunters, Explorers, Porters and Jungle Cannibals along with RalParthas African Animals -but now I need some fun and simple rule sets.
What have people played and found most enjoyable ? I'm looking for something that can stand alone as a one off game but that can be used for a campaign as well.
Am also after a small steamer/river boat 4 man crew size, any pointers to manufacturers would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

For a detailed but fast moving game of dinosaur hunting, I'd suggest Saurian Safari:

..for a campaign style game using your nice new figures, then it's Adventures in Jimland (don't be put off by the title!):

..incidentally, feel free to sign up at my yahoo group for more ideas:

(unless you have already that is).

I can suggest two:

Howard Whitehouse's Mexican Jack Squint Presents The Lion Eats Tonight for big game hunting by gentlemen adventurers brigadegames.com

Larry Brom's The Sword in Africa supplement to (and included in) The Sword and the Flame sergeants3.com

I recommend Mammalian Mayhem and if you want to hunt dinos Saurian Safari is done in the same manner as MM. Both are by HLBS and available at Brigade Games.

Here's the Table of Contents from Adventures in the Lost Lands. It should give you an idea of the subject matter covered. Good luck on your search, lots of good recommendations on this thread.

Sinister Laboratories, a joint venture between Brigade Games and Rattrap Productions, owns both Saurian Safari and Mammalian Mayhem as we purchased all of the original titles from Chris Peers several years ago.

You can find them here along with some miniatures that may be of interest.

I personally like Saurian Safari as well as Tooth and Claw both written by Chris Peers. I plan on checking out The Lion Sleeps Tonight. I have also used The Sword in Africa and Valor and Steel and Flesh an off shoot set of rules based on Brother Against Brother. I have not played Ed's Adventures in Lost Lands but if it is like his other games you will be pleased. Really there is a lot of choice out there and once you have your minis you can try out all the rules until you find what fits your style of play. This is a rich area to miniature war game and there are more than a few forums devoted to it.

Wow ! what a response, my heads battered with options now, thanks people. I'd heard of Saurian Safari and Mammalian Mayhem and wondered if they might work on a similar gaming system so I could swap between Big Game hunting and even BIGGER Game hunting.
Thanks also for the link Brigade Games I need some female Adventurers.
Any one got ideas for African Queen type steamer ? I read somewhere HLBSCo did one but looks like they've stopped doing a lot of items.
