On a recent business trip to Paris, I picked up a tube of Plastoy Asterix figures thinking I can play some sort of game with them –

However, Plastoy seem to do very few Romans and the ones they do are priced anywhere from £4.00 GBP upwards a figure. Any ideas on some suitable Romans I could use?

Also, are there any rules that capture the atmosphere of Asterix?

Song of Blades and Heroes would probably work for rules.

What size Romans are you looking for? Hat (any probably others) make some in 1/32 scale, but of course, they are not cartoon like.

Playmobil Romans should work although I don't know how they match your figures for scale.

Do you shop at Tesco? If you do, save your vouchers up and buy an entrance ticket to Parc Asterix. Hey presto next time you are in Paris you can have a grand day out. Parc Asterix is a much more relaxed park than Disney (lots lots cheaper to visit than EuroDisney). They are happy for you to take your own food and drink in (unlike Disney)

As you enter the Parc there are a number of shops selling Asterix goodies. First shop on your left has the full range of Plastoy Asterix figures; Romans aren't well represented in the range sadly -Caesar, a Centurion, a legionnary and a legionnary casualty.

The pirates are well represented – the captain, Nubian lookout and one other iirc. Think there is a raft too.

Google plastoy to find their website – loads of stuff on there, Lucky Luke too.

(We have the full Asterix range several times over at our house – 4 boys! And me!)

There seem to be a few romans in the plastoy chess set…

I remeber a game at Salute around 1980 where the Asterix figures were used. It was a wharf and you got points for various activities.
It may have been the Warlords own rules, which may still be available somewhere if you can contact them.

A boar hunt game? Wargames Illustrated (I think) had a set of rules at one point. ("A Boar's Head in Hand Have I" it was called)
