What do you think of these components, for making a "mule" or utility skimmer/landspeeder? Main body plate: auction Wedge plates, one in front and one in back, below the upper portions of the main base plate: auction Or with these in place of a rear wedge plate: auction As surfaces for the cargo areas: auction As seats: auction To finish the rest of the surfaces, including foot rests in front of seats: auction For the very front: auction Or: auction What do you think of how the overall thing would look? Would it still look too cartoony? Too big? Too small? All wrong? I've never really played with all those modern Lego specialty bits, but I'm sure some of you must have. Thanks, Dan |

Yes, they would. A few tinier detailing parts will reduce the cartoonish feel, or add some railroad model parts strategically. |

Ok, some lego basics. A single lug is 8mm square. Lug height is 1.8mm Brick height 9.6mm plate height is 3.2mm So a basic 2x2 flat tile (no Lugs) is 16mm square. In bulk costs about 7¢ per tile. I have considered it in the past, cost was the issue that stop the project. There are lots bits that work with a little work and paint. |

Hmm. Lug height is 1.8mm? Is that above the basic brick/plate surface? If sanded down instead of tiled over, would it look fairly smooth under the lug, or just leave a big hole? Thanks, Dan |

Hole. Tried it for 6mm stuff. |
infojunky | 21 Jun 2012 1:54 a.m. PST |
Hole mostly. Oh and the plastic is ABS. |

Infojunky: "I have considered it in the past, cost was the issue that stop the project." Cost was the issue? For just a handful? Or were you planning to buy huge amounts of the bits, to assemble and sell them in large quantities? Dan |

you could do it, but it would still loo like lego, you would need to cover or remove the lugs to hide the origins. |
Cacique Caribe | 21 Jun 2012 9:55 a.m. PST |
Well, the finishing tiles and the cargo grating in the links above would be used to hide the surfaces with lugs. So no lugs would be visible. QUESTION: Should I position the cargo area in the center of the frame, or the back?

Sorry Dan I ment to reply earlier, I was considering large scale projects, like terrain when the cost per piece ratio was done. Though custom ordering for small one off projects would probably be cost effective. |
