If any one knows the whereabouts of Steven Pepa please ask him to sh
refrain for wasting every one's time. I was sympathetic to his plight, now not so much. |

Who? Is that the Minas Tirith man? |
Steve Trustrum | 18 Jun 2012 5:14 a.m. PST |
Angel: It's the guy spamming the boards. Look at the end of every resurrected "touching history" thread that has been revived, despite some being 6+ years old. |
| stenicplus | 18 Jun 2012 5:16 a.m. PST |
Don't think so. But who ever he is he has resurrected umpteen threads with either the string 'Touching History' or 'Paul Darnell' in them. Thread necromancy gone mad I tell you!! |

Hmm, never heard of the guy, or that "part" of TMP. This place is bigger than I thought

Is there a rule against replying to an old thread if you have something to say? How many times have you seen a poster criticized because he posted a thread with a subject that had been covered in another thread? Why start a new thread on a subject if there is already a thread on that subject, regardless of the age of the thread? |

Never ran into him either. Will keep an eye out now tho. DOes seem to be a mite single minded. |

Isn't that Dawghouse worthy? I've Locked his account, and removed his posts. Is there a rule against replying to an old thread if you have something to say? We had a rule against 'bumping', then I think we had a vote about it
and I'm vague after that

This is just my 2 cents, but for better or worse I feel compelled to toss them into the pot
While I completely understand and sympathise with those, like the originator of this thread, who found Steven Pepa's recent barrage of Touching-History-related comments to be a bit of an annoyance, I don't understand why his account was locked and all his posts removed. Steven Pepa didn't speak ill of, insult, or "flame", anyone, nor discuss topics which are prohibited, such as contemporary politics, religion, etc. He just posted a bunch of comments on pre-existing threads, asking fellow hobbyists to help him get in touch with a tradesman with whom he had unfinished business, and who he himself had been unable to get in touch with, despite multiple attempts. Again, I am sympathetic to the cries of "enough already" and "that guy's constant harping on the same subject is getting annoying," but I don't see how posting a bunch of requests for help in his efforts to get the hobby items he paid for months earlier led to having everything he'd written on this site removed. Is there a hard and fast rule against repeatedly posting on various different threads to ask the same question? And yes, I know he didn't have a single post here on TMP before he began his recent barrage of singleminded comments, but why should that matter? It would appear he joined the site in order to ask for help, and proceeded to do just that. TMP has many helpful uses, one of which is trying to deal with problems and issues with hobby-related businesses, after a customer has been unable to find satisfaction, or sometimes even receive a reply of any kind, from the business in question. I'm not an expert on web-terminology, but can it really count as "spamming" when he left comments on less than a dozen threads (9 by my quite possibly imperfect count) with a direct connection to Touching History, and every comment he left was under his own user name? For myself, I think stenicplus used a far better method of dealing with Steven Pepa's comments when he created this thread, poking fun at his over-reach, and mentioning how he had gone from feeling sympathy for his plight, to being somewhat annoyed at him. For the record, I'm not a fan of Steven Pepa, I just feel some sympathy for his current plight with regard to having paid money for a big hobby item which never arrived, and despite having proven himself to be a somewhat overactive singleminded poster, I don't think he deserves to be seen as a villain, or to have had his account locked up -- unless there was more going on with regard to this subject than was publicly visible here on the site. |

He was a victim. Now a victim twice over for being banned because he was a victim. That is our Editor at work. |
| Poi000 | 21 Jun 2012 2:37 a.m. PST |
Locked? Yes, Mr Pepa was OTT but a warning should have been plenty. Been talking in other threads about not deleting posts etc, and community votes for banning, and then this happens. Another overreaction from our glorious leader. |

I don't understand why his account was locked
Locking can be undone, but I had to stop him from abusing the forums first. He definitely posted on more than nine topics! It looked to me like he posted on any topic that had "Touching History" in the title, no matter how old or irrelevant to his complaint. I have also tried to contact him directly, but have not heard back from him yet.
and all his posts removed. I didn't remove all of his posts, just the ones that were off-topic to the topics he posted them to. |

I never understood why bumping was per se bad. Bumping your own "Buy my Junk" or "whining argument with BME" threads is wrong, but I think doing it to keep a relevant post in the public eye, such as Consumer Affairs and similar seems fair to me. FREEEE-E Steven Pepa! (with every order placed at Touching History) Pat |
Steve Trustrum | 22 Jun 2012 3:52 a.m. PST |
My $0.02 USD I don't think it was so much because he was bumping. I think it was because he went into 15 or so different threads to post the exact same thing, and that thing had nothing to do with the original content of those threads, just tangentially with the guy those threads were about. Although I understand a guy wanting to track down someone who was supposed to deliver him product, and I've not been here long, I've already figured out this board has places that can be done, and in a far less intrusive way. I've also spent time moderating boards and email lists, and one of the more important aspects of keeping an eye on those places is keeping the conversation flowing. "Bumping" 15 or so unrelated threads to say the exact same thing pushes other topics off the page, which is the "prime real estate" of any message board, so to speak. It disrupts the flow of useful conversation. It annoys people. And from the Editor's response, he's not overreacting in my opinion. He's merely removed the spamming posts and has frozen the guy's account until he can respond and indicate he acknowledges that was the wrong way to go about things. All indications are, based on the amount of threads Steve Pepa was resurrecting to spam, that Mr. Pepa would have kept going with more spam had the Editor not stepped in. |

Well here I am. I engaged Paul Darnell in August 2011 to build me a Dacian battlefield. Paid him 1,500 GBP up front. Since then I have sent around 730 emails to him to get him to finish. I got the battlefield about a week and a half ago, but it is half finished. Now we will see if he finishes by end of July like he promised. I am hoping yes, but my research indicates potentially otherwise. We will see. I may have annoyed everyone, but after posting everywhere and emailing everyone and anyone that knows Paul, I got my battlefield. Sorry for annoying everyone. I will let everyone know how it turns out in about 2 weeks. Steven |

Hi Steven Be sure to post pics of the battlefield Cheers |

battlesinminiature.blogspot.co.uk Scroll down to the Dacian layout post on 23rd June. I Wonder what's not finished about the layout. I can't imagine Paul Darnell sending it unfinished. |
Steven Pepa | 20 Jul 2012 3:30 p.m. PST |
Really? How do you know? I know what I contracted. Are you suggesting I am manipulating the truth with a desire to obtain attention? Do you think 1,500 GBP bought only that? I have emails attesting to the fact that it is not finished. Wait for two weeks, and then everyone will know. Steven |

Hello all, As per my post of 19 July, I have not had any communication with Paul Darnell since that time. Now it is 13 August, and no change to my Dacian Battlefield, in terms of follow-up. I don't have a blog, so I cannot post a picture, but I will put something on Flicker and provide the link. Taken the early version of the battlefield provided by Paul, fixed it on the sides and produced a display table. Will show. Steve |
