Finished a second force in as many weeks, the lead, plastic and resin mountain shrinks….
QRF Sci-fi colonials with Airfix nee JB Models Saxons and Saladins.

….to about 100 HOF 15mm templers, 3 resin APCs, 2 resin scout cars, 3 plastic M113's, 2 1:100 macross kits, probably around 100-odd misc 15mm sci-fi figures, a hand full of ZOD mechs…

Hey Dentatus, they are QRF Colonial Marines 15mm. I like them even though the line is somewhat older.

Thanks,

John

Thanks John.

Nice cohesive force. Well done.

Yeah, the old QRF sculpts are some of my favorites in 15mm. They look horrible unpainted but fantastic once you paint them up. I bought to packs of them ages ago and turned my nose up at them so they sat in the lead piles for some years. I broke them out a couple of years ago to try out some new paints ("on some crap figures") and I was very happily surprised. They have a lot of character to them and they really grow on you as you paint them. Now they are easily in my top three favorite 15mm sci-fi. But of course YMMV.

The QRF Colonial's are 15mm, but on the big side of 15mm, so the 1:76th vehicles go reasonably well. In retrospect plastic kit headlights probably aren't that wargamer friendly. The only thing I really don't like about the figures is the soft cap, which looks a bit odd to me.

Gribbly bits used on the vehicles are Laserburn heavy weapons, one QRF colonial cut in half, two Old Crow gun barrels, CD 15mm vehicle stowage, GZG vehicle bits and drones.

Yeah, the hats are pretty odd. The make me think of the soft caps Imperial officers wore in Star Wars. Not the ball caps worn by the Colonial Marines. But there are plenty of helmeted marines to play with and the price is pretty good.

I agree that they do paint up well. I have been painting and organizing them via the Colonial Marines Sourcebook into platoons. I am going to switch my current transports to the new Khurasan ones which are great looking. I own well over a 100 ALIENS figs which I painted up years before the newer Khurasan ones were released. They all have fought in many battles mainly using the Pete Jones 'Is this another Bughunt' rules.

Thanks,

John
