Bruce Wayne's fortune and Wayne industries. No Bruce, no gadgets, no toys, no bat cave, no computers. without all of this the Bat is just Daredevil.

Commissioner Gordon. Without him, Bats would have been locked away with the rest of the weirdos in tights.

Jakar Nilson: Yes, OUTRAGEOUS!

-----------

Alfred and Commissioner Gordon. They are essential allies (his fortune is a resource). After that, Oracle (Barbara Gordon -- back before they rebooted her to being just plain old Batgirl).

After that, I would have to say Superman. Together, they are the Yin and Yang of the DC Universe.

Alfred is Mr. Indispensable, but in another way, so is the Commish. But I, too, am awfully partial to Batgirl (Barbara Gordon, the original and, for my money, only).

So I can't make up my mind. Will compromise -- Sherlock Holmes!

That did look a little convoluted I must say. Need to test that with missus the next time we dress up as Bats and Cats (-:)

Nah, if it was bad slash fic then Bats would be doing the Batusi with the Joker there.

I would say its Batmans neverending grim determination to seek justice….

Alfred (doing the laundry, making coffee, sewing Bruce back together, dusting the cave)
and Jim Gordon (the legal face to give creditably to the vigilante's actions)

Best Batman Ally? None other than Captain America, of course!

One of a handful of Marvel/DC crossovers was a wonderful story set during WWII in which Cap (after teaming up with Sgt. Rock and the Howling commandos) is sent to Gotham City on a secret mission. Needless to say it's only a matter of time before he and Bats meet up and realize that their missions run along similar lines: The Joker has been committing a number of heists around the city, each of them involving a piece of equipment needed to build a superweapon that could end the war. What no one knows is that the Joker is being paid to to this, at the orders of someone…who of course turns out to be none other then Cap's nemesis (and my personal choice for #1 super villain of all time) The Red Skull! The best gag in this story is the Joker's reaction upon finding out who he's been working for: "I may be a criminal lunatic, but I'm an AMERICAN criminal lunatic!" which results in the two of them having a fistfight while standing on top of an atomic bomb!

If you can find a copy of this, read it. it's lotsa fun!
