For those of you who remember the Antietam Diorama that was in the Clara Bee Gift Shop on the Sharpsburg Pike, it's still there (sort of!) I tracked down the owner, the Gift Shop is closed, and he has the property up for sale, most of it turned into apartments. But for a donation, he'll unlock the doors and give you a look. (He lives in one of the apartments above). The diorama is still intact, but starting to show signs of neglect and disrepair, and the sound & light display either turned off or disabled. The future for the diorama is uncertain; he said the Antietam NHP expressed no interest in acquiring it (at least at his asking price!) I regret I neglected to snap any photos while I was there. I have the elderly fellow's name and phone #, send me a PM if you are going to Antietam and might be interested in contacting him for a look. Larry |

What scale are the figures, how big is it and how much does he want for it? |

The figures were slender, about 20mm-25mm in a brand I did not recognize (maybe old K&L ?) The buildings looked like HO scale model train stuff. The entire thing was about 20'x10' and built on modules or sections. The quality was mediocre wargame at best. He said he would consider selling it for $45,000 USD to $50,000 USD, (but that's wishful thinking on his part IMHO) He is asking over $500,000 USD for the property. He said it's main advantage is it sits on part of the original battlefield and private property zoned commercial, which is why he and the Park officials are not on friendliest of terms. |

We're in the age of 3D and computer-generated terrain. The only people who do it "old school" are miniature gamers and model railroaders. I can't see someone from either of those groups ponying up that kind of money for a giant terrain board of Antietam. |

Thanks for the information Larry, it's nice to own a piece of history when it comes to things like this. I've got 1,000 22mm figures that were used in the Gettysburg in Miniature video, wish I could have purchased more of them when I had the chance. That said, 50 grand is not an option. |

He might have gotten the 500 grand before the recession. Now, he dream on with the rest of us. |
