I'm pretty sure all the dead (bar very senior officers) were buried in mass graves. Some clearly would have been missed. The internment was apparently not too particular as the corpses were near the surface and the smell was said to be intolerable for weeks after. No one would have gone to the trouble of returning the dead home, it was just not practicable. |
