I often paint fairly long stretches in front of the TV..As I no longer have cable and I have discoverd daytime(and often nighttime )free to air to be dire dire more often than not, I have taken to watching, well playing ,DVDs as I work, especially Crime.
What are your five Crime choices in a matter such as this?
I have just finished a stint of
David Suchet's Poirot
I have worked through
Wallander
many a Midsomer Murders
Foyles War
Lewis
these making my 5
though several iterations of Miss Marple are looking alluring..
so what are your five?

Karellian Knight15 Jun 2012 5:55 a.m. PST

I like to listen to the crime stories on BBC radio 4 extra. Recently they've had Poirot, Dixon of Dock Green and Lewis. I can't watch telly and paint she will not let me.

Cardinal Hawkwood15 Jun 2012 6:19 a.m. PST

ah..I don't have a "She"

Paint Pig15 Jun 2012 6:26 a.m. PST

Well if that list doesn't bake your noodle first you might have a big future in crocheting! Good grief man….

How does one watch the telly and paint anyway? grin

I put on shows I have seen, or ones that are more about the audio/dialogue than the visuals.

Mooseworks815 Jun 2012 6:40 a.m. PST

The BBC version of Sherlock Holmes.
The Shield.

Gennorm15 Jun 2012 6:43 a.m. PST

Football on the radio or past editions of In Our Time from Radio 4 on BBC i-player.

plutarch 6415 Jun 2012 6:58 a.m. PST

The Professionals.

Nope.
No telly for me while painting. Too distracting.
I do listen to lots of OTR (Old Time Radio) and audiobooks.

No TV. I have recently had "Turtles Progress" playing on the computer as background which could count as a crime series.

I don't watch TV and paint either. For one thing I don't have TV. I usually listen to books or In Our Time.

But for crime shows, I've seen a couple of episodes of Breaking Bad and that was pretty good. I also liked the new Sherlock series.

My favourite crime movie of all time is Fight Club.

Keraunos15 Jun 2012 7:48 a.m. PST

Wallander is impressive, I need to be reading the subtitles to watch it, which precludes painting.

Poirot and the Wire for me – all the really good stuff (the bridge, the killing, spiral) are subtitled.

Jovian115 Jun 2012 8:11 a.m. PST

I use them as background noise, because if I end up watching them, there isn't any painting going on.

anleiher15 Jun 2012 8:40 a.m. PST

Wallander, but on BBC 4

Foyles War

Midsomer Murders

A Touch of Frost

Murder in Suburbia

Two entirely different things for me. I don't mix crime detection with war gaming although I like all of the series mentioned so far.

138SquadronRAF15 Jun 2012 10:31 a.m. PST

Based on the last couple of months:

Foyles War,
Morse
Lewis
A Touch of Frost,
Murder in Suburbia
Midsomer Murders
Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett)
Sherlock

I watch either the History channel, or one of the MANY war movie DVDs I have, unless "she" is in the room, then we watch whatever "she" wants and I just paint.

ChicChocMtdRifles15 Jun 2012 1:31 p.m. PST

I listen rather than watch. I have tons of DVds and radio CDs. Haven't had tv in ages.

What I listen to depends on mood. Hogans Heros for comedy, Mannix for action, Hee Haw for cornpone, etc.

Cardinal Hawkwood15 Jun 2012 5:46 p.m. PST

yes it involves a lot of listening..but your brain sorts a lot of the visuals out as you go..
Wallander in English for me,
Even when I am not painting I find I usually do more listening to TV..while doing other things, with the odd glance to keep a bit of visual context..
and I seriously forgot A touch of Frost..the pilot episode of which I found I hadn't seen(heard?) before.
I find it hard to paint in Zen like silence..there have been any number of threads about Music one paints by..
mine there is Schubert, Bach, Beethoven ,Chopin and Mozart,Haydn, and some of the recent released "new" vivaldi.
I find String quartets, piano quartets and trios, solo piano..to be my choice, though the odd symphony cracks along things..

when I had cable tv I used to have the History channel or the Sci fi channel running contiuously as I painted.. now I like a bit more drama..actualy the
Jesse Stone stories are quite wonderful as well…one can only imagine a meeting, and conversation, between Jesse Stone and KurtWallender

and paint pig…multi-tasking is the compound word of the day..
(though today, with it so wet and a bit cold here cat-herding is the concept of the day)

Cardinal Hawkwood15 Jun 2012 7:46 p.m. PST

Numb3rs

Khusrau15 Jun 2012 9:33 p.m. PST

My CD versions of the BBC productions of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Oberst Radl16 Jun 2012 12:46 p.m. PST

I bought a set of Inspector Morse. Seems intersting.

trailape16 Jun 2012 3:33 p.m. PST

I can't paint and wath TV. To distracting.
I like to kisten to Music, 'Foo Fighters', 'Eagles', 'Fleetwood Mac',…..

14Bore16 Jun 2012 6:06 p.m. PST

My computer screen, and it's to the detriment of my figure output. Listen to music even when played on YouTube is better, Talk radio can get the most production out of me.

Cardinal Hawkwood17 Jun 2012 1:51 a.m. PST

I paint an awful lot of the time, I listen to music .I have the TV on.."do we need a what do you listen toif, you listen to anything , as you paint?"

Gustav17 Jun 2012 3:31 a.m. PST

omg omg Turtle's Progress – used to love that when I was a young lad. Did not know it was re-released – immediately gets out credit card.

as for my tv of choice whilst painting – well the Sharpe series of course, if not whatever my wonderful children happen to be watching :)

Grand Duke Natokina17 Jun 2012 2:00 p.m. PST

Excellent quintet, your Eminence. I no longer have a TV, and the confuser needs some repair to be DVD-playable again.
