Nice to see that the Observation Corps do not dominate the "Russian" look. I love the rough and ready look of the Cossack Sotnias. I miss the Orthodox priests with their icons. Excellent work. Cheers, |

Are your cavalry "units" squadrons or regiments? If the latter, then it appears that you are a bit out of proportion relative to the 24 figure infantry battalions. 24 figures is approximately 1:30 or 24 minis = 720 infantry, which is a good generic figure for 18th century infantry battalions. A full regiment of cavalry should have the same number of figures as an infantry battalion, or close to it. |

Hi DAF, I'm going on ground scale rather than figure numbers, and my 'battalions' represent 2 battalion regiments – so the frontage of my cavalry 'regiments / units' (typically representing 5 squadrons of cavalry) would be very similar (I think there is 20m difference), though the cavaly regiments are actully light by 4 figs because I can't physically squeeze 3 on a 45mm front stand. Fortunately, the rules I like do not count heads. My four Observation Corps regiments, being 3 battalions each, will muster 36 figs each. (As, BTW, will some of my Austrian units). I only have a 12 foot x 6 foot table, and this scaling will allow a fair number of historical re-fights to take place. Two battalion / unit regiments are simply, but regretably, beyond my scope. |

OK, now that makes sense to me. The 12 infantry to 8 cavalry differential is not that great, from a visual stand point, so it looks like the proportions are within bounds. However, since frontage is the primary factor, I can see that this does not matter. Your basing does give you flexibility to play other rules systems wherein a battalion is simply a battalion and a brigade of dragoons could represent a regiment of cavalry. I imagine that your SYW collection will look every bit as nice as your Punic War collection (which is drop dead gorgeous!). |

Excellent display James. You've progressed this really nicely. Would like to see a closer shot of the grenadiers next time around if possible please . The Cossack basing is also interesting. It gives each sotnia an irregular look and draws my eye to check out each figure. |

Very nice! I am in the process of a major beef-up of my Russians – this is a great inspiration |
