Hi

I'm re-starting this thread to include a wider audience.

I'm quite taken by the NI (Terror) Tank used in the defence of Odessa in 1941.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NI_Tank

link

It wasn't a one-off, up to 68 were built and they were used in the defence of the city.

I decided that I wanted some in 15mm for my 1941 Soviets, but my laptop isn't up to 3D modelling so I started talking with a designer on Shapeways. I only want a few (4 or 5 at the most) so he is going to look at the costings for me and come back with some prices for some resin cast models (complete with base like Forged In Battle).

They would be cast without guns, so you can add an MG, 37mm or 45mm as you wish. They are unusual enough to be useable in Pulp, WWW2 or VSF games as well.

If anyone else be interested in some of these interesting little tanks please drop me a line at -

guthroth at colanhomm dot org

Obviously there will be no obligation until we get a firm price.

I would be interested in a couple.

With the caveat of price, I might want a few.
I think that FoW Barbarossa supplement is due out soon.

Guthroth14 Jun 2012 7:29 a.m. PST

I hope to get a price tonight

with playing 15mm AVBCW/Post war banana republic games, I could see this fitting right in with our needs. Yes the price is important, but I can see anything between 1 and 4 could see use by our little group.

Hi

I've been promised a price in a few days, but to whet you appetites I've been told I can post these links.

First a jpg of the CAD image of the model

While this is a link to a 4-view plan of the model.

PDF link

Note it's being modelled without a gun, you will have to supply that.

I am a fan of using brass rod for guns, so that is not a problem.

I would want to see if it is in the Barbarosa ists first, though. I really can't afford to buy things I might never use.

Any chance of doing a 28mm one?

Guthroth05 Jul 2012 2:55 a.m. PST

Hi

Holidays have got in the way a bit, but this model is now ready to go.

The cost will be £4.00 GBP GBP each (plus postage) for a resin cast which comes with a solid base like the Forged In Battle models. UK postage will be £1.00 GBP for the first one and an extra 25p for each additional model. Rest of world postage will be £2.00 GBP GBP for the first one plus 50p for each additional model.

This is a very good price for a very limited offer. The designer did the work for free and I have personally paid for the 3D master. I don't mind ordering a few extra along with the ones I want myself, but I don't have buckets of cash to spare, so I am only prepared to order a few extra on spec. I will order extras if I have definate orders however, so if you want one – or more – drop me a line at < guthroth @ colanhomm.org > and I'll add them to the order.

Payment by Paypal please and if you could mark it as a gift rather than a purchase, it will save me quite a bit in charges.

Bumped again, as today is the last chance to order these models.

Nice job! The Terror Tank lives on.

Guthroth27 Jul 2012 5:42 a.m. PST

Thanks to those who have replied so far, this little beauts will be appearing on tabletops in several parts of the world in the near future.

I do still have a few still not spoken for …..

JD Lee27 Jul 2012 6:59 a.m. PST

How much for two?

Willkerrs15 Jan 2016 11:16 a.m. PST

Working on a very similar project myself, with someone from Shapeways. I hope to make the best and most accurate scale model ever, as the half a dozen or so i've seen on the internet are, in some ways, wrong for a variety of reasons.

I'm actually a big fan of the Odessa Tank. I've got my own article on it over on Tanks Encyclopedia: link

HidaSeku15 Jan 2016 12:08 p.m. PST

I enjoyed reading that link, Willkerrs. You did a great job telling the story of the NI tank as well as investigating every supposed rumor about them. Very cool!

Guthroth19 Jan 2016 6:10 a.m. PST

Hi.

The models I helped to commission of this little oddity are now available from the designers shop.

Enjoy

4th Cuirassier22 Jan 2016 3:55 a.m. PST

It's sort of a Russian Bob Semple Tank, only smaller, and worked.

Willkerrs23 Jan 2016 5:27 p.m. PST

Thanks for the compliments. I've updated it since, having spoken to a Russian who pointed me in the direction of a rumour about trench flamethrowers being mounted in some. Frankly, it sounds like BS to me, because we'd know about it if they did. It's such a conspicuous weapon, especially from a tank that was used as a psychological weapon. Marshal Krylov's memoirs do mention that factories made trench flamethrowers from soda water cylinders, but doesn't mention anything about them being fitted to Odessa Tanks. In any case, it's more likely than some other weapons.

I'll update this thread once my Odessa Tank project is done.
My issue with the model that this thread was about is that it's bloody accurate, but not totally. I was able to use some rare footage (some possibly never seen before by Odessa Tank researchers) to construct a more likely hull shape. In fact, I found a very accurate but not very detailed technical drawing which helped a lot. I'll be using 3d printing technology, too, except I want mine to be absolutely 100% perfect, coloured, and probably 1/72 (maybe bigger depending on price) meaning it will cost a lot lot lot more! But i'm likely going to add in at least two crew members. Both naval infantry – in fact, pretty much what you see here (except I want the guy on the back further up)

picture

I just need to ID the uniforms they have on for certain. I did ask this on a Facebook page devoted to the Soviet Navy, but no replies. Like I said on another TMP post, I seem to think that the guy in white is wearing scruffy working dress, and the guy in dark colours is wearing a dark blue 'jumper' and black trousers. Anybody got any thoughts?

Also need help IDing this machine gun. It's mounted inside a T-26A turret that originally had a 37mm PS-1 gun mounted (hence the crudely cut hole in the middle of the front). Look how long the barrel is compared to any other DT.

ALSO has anybody got any idea of wheel sizes for the STZ-5 tractor? Maybe somebody has a model kit and can measure them for me? I could scale them up or something. It'd really help for a numerical reference.

Willkerrs24 Jan 2016 6:03 a.m. PST

Perhaps it's a DA machine gun?

Willkerrs24 Jan 2016 8:49 a.m. PST

Unless it's just a regular DT with a flame arrester.

number424 Jan 2016 11:28 a.m. PST

I heard that the only way to stop a 'NI' tanks was to present it with a shrubbery……………..

I'll get my coat

Andy P27 Jan 2016 5:18 a.m. PST

Couldn't you chop them down with a "Fish"?
