I use Coat d Arms Wood Brown. Thanks for the tip, I'll give Bestial Brown a try. I'm colour blind, so I paint by numbers. I use Leather Brown for leather and GW Spearshaft Brown for spears when they made it. This type of topic is very useful to me. Thanks, JohnG |

For French muskets produced between 1794 and 1801, I use the following mix: 1. A light gray undercoat 2. A 30% water, 20% Rencoat Orange, 50% Citadel Ogre Poop Brown wash 3. Sun dry for 20 minutes 4. Highlight with 50% Reaper Oil Cloth Tan/50% Tide free & gentle formula 5. Pixie Dust 6. Profit! Ok, that's all crazy. Usually I use some sort of craft paint brown for all rifle stocks, rifle butts, horse butts, etc.

I don't have a hard and fast colour choice for musket timber but I do always use Vallejo Woodgrain ink over whatever I choose be it a one colour or two tone wood grain choice. Darkens the finish giving the wood a stained appearance with a light sheen. regards dave |

I mix them up. I usually have 4-5 different color musket stocks in a unit, assuming that in time of war consistent musket/rifle stocks would not be common. Look at WW2 weapons, and you'll see a lot of variation in stock colors. Why would the Napoleonic era be any different? |

Generally a dark brown, depending on what I have on hand at the time. If you're color blind I wouldn't take too much notice of the names given to the Vallejo colors because they can vary quite a lot from what shade you would expect them to be. Have a non-CB friend give you advice and use them according to the numerical designator only. |
