For example you have several unpainted Saxons by manufacturer X, but you just saw the Saxons by brand Y and you like them better. Do you dispose of the X Saxons and buy them from Y or do you soldier on with the originals? |

I did this with my Greeks. I had a whole army of OG Greeks but when the Foundry World of the Greeks line came out I gave all my OG ones to a kid in my history club and bought the Foundry ones. I also replaced most of my Sub Roman Britons from OG with Foundry figures but that wasn't because of the figs as much as the paint job. Maybe I'll repaint them someday. If I could magically change all of my metal figs into plastic ones I would do that in a heartbeat. |

I'd go with the better ones, and either sell off the ones I didn't want, if they don't match up size-wise, or use them for filling out a larger army/unit, if the old ones are still decent, and look okay with the new ones. |

Much less painful than replacing painted ones with other painted. I replaced Essex 15mm Early Imperial Romans with a mixture of AB and Corvus Belli. I liked the newer figures so much that I abandoned my 28mm Foundry project as I didn't feel I was missing anything by staying in 15mm. AB figures are awesome. Too bad they don't make a wider range of ancients. I will more than likely replace some Old Glory Prussian 18s with Blue Moon figures down the road too. I like the sculpting and the ruggedness of Blue Moon better. Will probably have special units and commanders with AB and CGM too. I never saw the need to stick with one manufacturer for an army. You get a wider variety of poses by going with more than one manufacturer. |

Go with the "better" ones if you can afford it. From Wikipedia: "A hobby is a regular activity or interest that is undertaken for pleasure, typically done during one's leisure time". We do this "for pleasure". It does not need to make sense. |

Would really depend on the size match up. |

Size match is a must. skinny/burly/fat/etc is not so important. After all, we were getting pretty thin by the end of the war. |
