HMGS-PSW Historical Miniatures Games

The members of the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society will be presenting an assortment of historically themed games from a variety of timelines. Take to the skies in a Sopwith Camel in Wings of War or refight a battle straight from your favorite WWII movie using Flames of War rules. Historical gaming is fun, educational and who knows, you might run into the Enemy Ace or The Haunted Tank!

That's the blurb on the San Diego Comic Con program for HMGS/PSW's demo table.

I've got a recurring scenario that we'll be doing, but I want to break it up with the Haunted Tank. I could've sworn that BF had posted stats for it, but I can't find 'em.

Anyone?

Wyatt

Yep. Back in the old version 1.0 days. The Haunted Stuart with the ability to destroy tigers. Made the model for my FOW games. Have a printed copy someplace in the dusty files dept. If no link found and posted, I should be able to find and scan.

Came from these old comics: link

Now there is a blast from the past!

As I recall, the Haunted Tank had an uncanny ability to destroy Tigers – or anything else it ran into; I remember as a kid thinking "that doesn't seem like a very big gun to do all that damage"

You would be surprised what a 37mm gun can do.

For some reason, I'm picturing the 'Commando' Kelly rule, where you can trade up multiple low-strength hits for one hit with better AT/FP.

Don't forget---The haunted tank had the help of the supernatural. The M3 stuart is still my all time favorite tank because of that comic and my wonderful memories of hot summer days growng up in Iowa reading them.

In N. Africa the Allied tank the Germans feared the most was the Stuart. It was faster than their turrets could turn! Made those Jerries quite nervous.

An M8 scout car took out a Tiger with its 37mm – one hit to the engine comparment top grill as the M8 took avoiding action up an embankment. Took the engine out & the crew abandoned the Tiger.

As a kid in the 60's, I also read the GI Combat Comics & loved them. Now I find out I am four years too late in picking up the "Showcase Books" that featured the 1960's comics in Black & White for $16.00 USD. Now you can pay up to between $40.00 USD & $125.00 USD for the two books. Would love to see some one here post a pic of the "Haunted Tank" model especially the "Jigsaw Tank" that was cobbled together from parts in a tank grave yard. Like Legion 4 stated, "Good Shot'n M8." That is almost as good as the Sgt. from the 30th Inf. Div. at the "Battle of Mortain" who fired a 2.35" rocket launcher (Bazooka) and bounced the shot into the the belly of a Mk V Panther killing it.

I loved the completely over-the-top covers on those comics! Then you'd get inside and it would be completely different.

"M-3" version of such a thing:

Which seemed to change from month to month…

Enemy Ace was the BEST comic ever!!!!

Sheesh, the frankentank looks like a Panther chassis with an M41 turret on it!

And I still think the best way to approximate the Haunted Tank is with a modification of 'Commando' Kelly's rules. If you get 2 hits with the 37mm, you can trade that up to a single hit from a 75mm equivalent (AT9 or 10). If you get 3 hits with the 37mm, you can trade that up to a 3" gun (AT12 or 13).

Great covers, thanks! The last one looks like a cross between a Panther and an M-1.

Hi

I'm also looking for the fow stats for the Haunted Tank. if TMPwargamerabbit could provide a scanned copy I'd be grateful.

I'm also looking for the pdf that battlefront put out for the B-29 and the nuclear bomb. any help there would also be appriciated.

I do remember seeing stats for both The Haunted Tank and The Rat Patrol. I seem to recall them being discussed in the forums section. I don't recall that they allow links so it may have been a full blown posting. It may well have been a yahoo group posting. Long enough ago that I can't shake the cobwebs.

I am pretty sure the Jigsaw Tank was a T34 chassis, but not sure where the turret came from.
