So, I was hosting a game at Wappinshaw this past weekend*. Early on in the day, one of the many people who came to have a look was a small boy, perhaps 7 or 8 years old. On the corner of the table was a dicetower I made from some boxes last year. Possibly the only wargaming accessory from Ede & Ravenscroft in existence. theminiaturespage.com
"TMP link Dice Tower by Ede and Ravenscroft by michaeljohnharker, on Flickr This was a thing of immense fascination to the child, so I placed it nearer the edge with ten dice so he could have ago. Letting the dice tumble through and collecting them was an activity of almost perfect pleasure for him for five minutes. Sated, he looked me in the eye with the sweetest and most innocent expression you've ever seen outside of a Spaniel, said thank you and scampered off. So, I took my nine dice and moved them back into the main pool. Some minutes later he was back, and this time he tried rolling the dice gently without the tower, using both hands to keep control. This wasn't as much fun, clearly, so after a few minutes he left and I collected my 8 dice
Sigh. * Obligatory link: link

Reminds me a bit of a time when I was hanging out at a friend's house, and the 6 year old daughter of a visiting mutual friend was admiring the "pretty purple bag" I kept my dice in. I was mostly dropping some gaming stuff off for the weekend, before heading in to work on a Friday night followed by a double shift on Saturday- I was intending to crash there after 18+ hours at work Saturday, so we could game all Sunday. Not thinking anything of it, I emptied my dice into a small cardboard box I had handy and tossed the bag to the little girl, telling her she could keep it, since I had a half dozen identicals at home. Flash forward a few hours to Monk at work, and onto the floor of the club (I was a bouncer/floorman at the time) walks said child's mother, fixing me with an arched eyebrow and a smirk as she heads my way. She then proceeds to mention the purple velvet bag I'd given her daughter, and it isn't until she says "She was all excited about showing her friends at school Monday, and I had to explain that maybe wasn't appropriate?" that it dawns on me- It was the bag that bottles of Crown Royal come packed in. Had never even crossed my mind

Hmmmm
do you think he really palmed one or di one slide off the table to parts unknown? It was the bag that bottles of Crown Royal come packed in. They do make wonderful dice bags! |

He palmed it using his left hand the first time. Even when I glanced meaningfully at his fist and then back at his face his angelic expression didn't waver for a moment
