I want to do a 1950s/1960s 'The Thing' type game using Copplestones wonderful K49 Snowcat, does any manufacturer produce suitable era polar explorer type miniatures ? am after civilian lightly armed types rather than armed to the teeth, tough hombres. Any help/pointers greatly appreciated, cheers. |

Pulp Figures are more oriented to the '30s rather than the '50s, but these guys might work for you: link |

You may find the Four A snow troopers a bit over armed! link
Having seen these actual models I have to say they are very neat. |

Copplestone has a few also: link Like Pulp Figures, these are more 30s than 50s, but really who's going to argue? |

Someone else did some Ice Station Zebra figs, for both sides, so you might look into those too. |

If you haven't seen it, here's part one of a five part series on the 1955-1958 Commonwealth Transantarctic Expedition in which the Tucker Model 743 Sno-Cat features: YouTube link Somewhere in one of the five parts you get to see that classic image of the Sno-Cat stuck across the yawning crevasse with one pontoon hanging down and you also get to see how they recover it! |

These three guys from Rafm will work, too. Perfect match in scale, heft, and style to the Pulp mountaineers, since they were also sculpted by Bob Murch. The sled is a LITTLE early for the '50s, but workable. |

Tiger miniatures has the ex HLBS arctic explorers, they might suit you: link designed by Ernest Shackleton!!!!! WoW In their listing they have a range called Ice station LIMA but not photos and availability yet! |

The difference between '30s & '50s gear is negligible, I wouldn't worry that much, unless your '50s/'60s guys are to be in the latest gear. Even then, much the same at 28mm. Ice Station Lima migth be too early too – the same range refers to using their Sand Pebbles figs – so the '20s. Regiment Games figures are purpose made, but non-heroic in size. I have a set and have played one game so far, didn't get as far as The Thing but the enemy spy did manage to blow up 1/3 of the base and get away, taking out some marines in the process. |

Thanks for all the feed back, I'd seen the Regiment Games figs and thought there was a few from that line I could use, Four A Snow Troopers are too ultra modern but I agree, very neat,(but I AM picking up their 'Piranha Boy' or 'Demon' fig on saturday at the Durham show, to use as my 'Monster' in the game), the RAFM figs are a possibility but are they not closer to 25mm than 28mm and does that make the Pulp Miniatures of a similar smaller size ? I'll check out the YouTube link later when I've got more time to sit back and be inspired :) |

Pulp and Rafm are both 28mm. Nice figures. And Rafm are RIGHT NOW having a 25 percent off sale ! |

"designed by Ernest Shackleton!!!!! WoW" Actually, the statement is "British Wearing Winter Gear designed by Ernest Shackleton" which would be a bit different than "British Wearing Winter Gear, designed by Ernest Shackleton" |
