This time, the Me 109 is brought into the scene, producing a mistel composite aircraft.

Very cool! I've just been reading about the use of these and the suicide pilots, etc. trying to hit the bridges during the battles just before Berlin. |

Neal, this wasn't the use of this combination of fighter and glider. This unit was used for resupply of troops trapped behind enemy lines. When the glider was released the fighter at least had a fighting chance of getting home. The mistel units that you are thinking about used obsolete bombers packed with explosives. |

Or sometimes not so obsolete. I believe I've read of bombers being taken straight off the assembly line and converted to Mistel packages. But yeah, I've never heard of this combination being used (intentionally, anyway) as a bomb. Doug |
