Here are the first images of the painted Neptune SPAR TacMech, which is the heavy support unit for the Federal Navy's SPAR teams. SPAR teams are the elite special ops troops of the Federation. The decision was made to back up the SPAR teams with a TacMech rather than a vehicle because of its ability to navigate all sorts of terrain and the utility of its arms for assisting the team in operations. Also the TacMech is much quieter and has more of an ability to conceal itself than a vehicle. The basic armament of the Neptune is a superheavy plasma rifle, which is a separate weapon from the TacMech and can be put down so that both arms of the TacMech can be employed in lifting or other manipulation. Backing up the main armament are two shoulder hardpoints, which most commonly mount seeker antipersonnel missiles but can alternately mount tankslayer missile launchers or the RMGS (Rapid-fire Multi-purpose Gun System). Some pictures, painted by Dags.
For scale, here it is compared to a roughly human-sized Space Demon.
And above it's compared to the big Python power armoured suit of Nova Respublik. It towers over that large suit.
Here are all of the pieces from both Neptune sets. Both sets? Yes, there's two! The basic kit comes with the plasma rifle arms, the leg set with the left leg forward, and the seeker missile shoulder pods. There's an expansion set as well, which can be used to pimp multiple kits, and contains the empty-handed arms, the tankslayer missile tubes (shown in the buildup images), the RMGS, and the leg set with the right leg forward. Coming alarmingly soon! |

This is awesome, I haven't felt giddy about minis in years. Love it! Were there going to be SPAR infantry? My memory is shot, know you've mentioned something in the past about this. What's it look like next to the Earthdoom power armour? |

McWong, yes there are SPAR infantry too. They will be released along with the Neptune. I'm glad you feel giddy, that's a fun experience for a gamer/collector and I'm glad I'm able to provide some of that fun to others. |
Lion in the Stars | 30 May 2012 7:48 p.m. PST |
Aaaaaaaand there goes my wallet back under the bed again. Too many cool minis, not enough dollars! So, about 55-60mm tall? |
MrHarold | 30 May 2012 7:51 p.m. PST |
Very cool! I might wanna get some of those "build-up" kits too, for scratch-building! |
khurasanminiatures | 30 May 2012 7:58 p.m. PST |
So, about 55-60mm tall? I reckon as much, but it rather depends on how you measure.
Sorry, it's in Imperial only. |
MrHarold | 30 May 2012 8:03 p.m. PST |
yes there are SPAR infantry too. Ohhhhhhh
.are these 15mm size? Or are they larger (20mm battle suits for instance)? Excited to see the rest of the range! So cool! |
khurasanminiatures | 30 May 2012 8:06 p.m. PST |
They are 15mm size, actually as they are special ops troops they wear less armour than the Federal Army troops. They also have a very distinctive helmet with a full VR visor. Each team has two snipers (one with a heavy anti-material rifle and the other with an anti-personnel rifle), an operator with a plasmon (a plasma flame thrower), and four operators with .50 submachine guns. |
RTJEBADIA | 30 May 2012 8:24 p.m. PST |
Looking forward to SPAR infantry

More of ability to conceal itself? Only if you have a handy two story building to stand behind. I am trying to figure out the lower leg joint to see if it can take a knee or go prone. The curse of being in the medical field and knowing anatomy. I think I can see how the extra joint allows the lower leg to lay back, the middle part of the leg to lay on it, and the upper leg to lay on that, sort of like a backward Z. So it is kneeling. It should drop the height down to about the same as the Russian Mech. Be interesting to see one kneeling, which might be a more stable firing platform also, just like in humans. That said. Guess it is time to stop wasting my money on World of Tanks and give you some of it. Just waiting on the new Federal vehicles to come out. These mechs are just too cool and I have always hated mechs. Now how to work it into the Near Future warfare. The Russian Mech was easy since it was so Russian in appearance, I dont know if that means what I am trying to say. |

You're too late! Mike McVey already took all my money for his board game kickstarter! You'll have to wait at least until July now! |
Richard Gaulding | 30 May 2012 9:34 p.m. PST |
Finally! These should scale nicely with the Rebel HAMRs I have. One step closer to that 15mm AT VOTOMS game I've been wanting to run :) |

ThorLongus | 31 May 2012 6:12 a.m. PST |
love it. fantastic
but is that a rubber thingie on the butt of the gun so the mech doesn't get a sore shoulder from recoil? |

Ever heard metal grind on metal before? I like the idea of using this chap with the bare fists in 28mm scale with the shoulder cannons -- a two fisted killer robot! |

Jon, I don't like Mechs on principle. Too big a target profile that shouts out like a mechanical Daffy Duck, "SO SHOOT ME NOW!" I *like* this mech. Leland R. Erickson

Looks like the Python could punch out that Neptune's knees. But it does look really cool. |
McWong73 | 31 May 2012 7:49 p.m. PST |
To date the Python has been my favourite mech/power armour/battlesuit release as it's ergonomics make a lot of sense – the Rebel Minis Viper is a solid second and the Earthdoom a very close third – and the pneumatic fists are a factor that pushed it over the line for me. I for one look forward to my Python's knee capping a Neptune. |
palaeoemrus | 31 May 2012 10:13 p.m. PST |
I don't think of it as a cylon face so much as a Maximillian face.
|

If my wife calls and has words with you Jon, sorry. Your release schedule is amazing and wallet draining. Keep up the good work, And thanks for those Hillbillies, painted up real Gud them thanhgs did. |

I think this will go quite well with Rebel's HAMR and Ravenstar's Silverback mechs, as well as the DIMOG and Micropanzer's 28mm Russian Powered Armor. Now I wonder how it looks standing next to the Golem/APES suits from DP9 (Heavy Gear, Utopia/Eden). |
Lion in the Stars | 01 Jun 2012 12:53 p.m. PST |
Yup, we may have found the Iggy-proxy, Lampy. Though I also have some of z4miniatures stuff en route. The Neptune will be much taller than the Golem/APES suits, the Golems are only ~25mm tall. |
steve atkinson | 08 Jun 2012 6:31 a.m. PST |
Neptune mech – where art thou ? I think Jon must have had more orders than he realised . hopefully available soon ? ditto medium tank & apc. |
khurasanminiatures | 08 Jun 2012 8:32 a.m. PST |
Ill all week, Steve, so fell behind. Not a good idea to release a new product when you're very behind on order fulfillment. On the mend so should catch up on the weekend
