Looking for information about this period. Not only OOB's, uniforms, flags etc (althoudh would love to see them) but also strategical and tactical movement, use of cavalry etc

Wavros 'Austro-Prussian War' is a decent start for 1866, as are the historical notes in Bruce Wiegles rules '1859' and '1866'.

Thanks for the info you've added.
Some reading to do.
Is there a good book (preferable in English, French or German) of the 1859 campaign?
Have of course some osprey's and I'm now searching google books for info
thanks again

I'm thinking about using the Mirliton 25mm figures for this period; are there any comparable figures to these?

"Solferino" by Patrick Turnbull (1985)

"The Campaign for Magenta & Solferino, 1859" by Col HC Wylly (1996) [1st pub'd 1907].

Not sure how the reviews were, but they are both in English, albeit somewhat brief at under 200 pages each.

Others:

'The Second Italian War of Independence 1859' by Luigi Casali (this is/was Campaign Booklet #8 originally sold by FreiKorps15)- Also contains uniform information.

'The Italian Campaign of 1859' by Lt-General Knollys (a Ken Trotman Monograph)

'Montebello 20 May 1859' by Ralph Weaver (Continental Wars Society Battle Booklet #4)

'A German Account of the Italian Campaign 1859' Helion Books

Thanks again.
PS,
didn't know there was a continental society. They don't have a site.
How can they be reached? Anyone knows?

Both are good accounts with Wylly being very readable. Wylly is available on Google books.

Has anyone seen the Italian wars range by Irregular? They are cheaper than Mirliton, but are they of the same quality?

Have you thought of 10mm? I will be starting work on 1859 in a few months. Figures are excellent quality.

Chad,
to be honest, no. Every time I see a wargames table with 10mm I just find them too small.
It is not that I can't paint them and I admire some great painted 10mm (or smaller figures) but it is just not my cup of tea. The smallest figure I would do is 15mm.

Isn't there anyone who bought the Irregular 25mil 1859 Italian figures?
