Im thinking about buying the rules Cover Your Six. It says they are played on a hexed surface. Is it possible to play it without hexes in a simple manner? Or is a hexsurface really necessary?

If you don't want hexes then go for scramble! But then I have an eversion to CY6 (I have a copy of the rules and one of the suppliments if your interest!)

But I'm sure you could play without hexes though the arces of fire might be tricky!

Soledad, I have not seen any no-hex rules.

Just curious, as a CY6 fan, what is your aversion to it, DasUber?

I can't quite put my finger on it but it didn't seem to work in my mind. I felt that stats didn't quite work for me.

I didn't relish that fact that the supplements didn't add anything more in terms of new aircraft stats and only really offered some historical information in the area that the supplement was set, which to be honest, most of which could be taken from an osprey or signal book.

I also felt that the World War 2 rules have been dumped in favour of the jet age set (which in terms of business makes sense but leaves the older set lacking) but has left them lacking a sense of completion.

What I will say is that these are just my opinions and my own personal experience of the rules. If your interested in this period and type of gaming give them a try and see what you think……..I'm just a peculiar beast

I wanted to try the rules but was not sure if I would like them, or if any of my friends een wanted to play them. So I did not feel to invest in a 100 USD hexmat for a game I might play.

With shipping, customfees and taxes even 100 USD would be a bargain.

But a friend gave me an idea and now Im planning to make my own hexmat. If the idea goes well I will inform here.
