This isn't a new game but I haven't come across any really detailed reviews of how the game plays and I know I personally like a bit of detail before I push the 'purchase' button.

Hope this helps someone!

Here is a shorter review from 2005 (older edition)

It is a well composed review.

I think the thing about aces and formations getting bonus moves may seem strange but when considered in the overall game context it is an effective way of creating the effect that Aces are so much more dangerous.

The whole game play is abstract in relation to elapsed time and space, for example the climbing performance of all aircraft bears no direct relation to any other action the plane may take in a given amount of time.

If you can accept this (and I can) then you are effectively ignoring how the mechanics can be unpicked whilst enjoying the flavour of the game. In game play these bonus moves that Aces have gives the effect that they can be all over their enemy which is quite realistic.

If you don't like it you can remove the bonus moves from the card deck. For example, although I keep the aces and their bonus moves in the deck I don't use the individual character cards in my own games and I don't include bonus cards for every ace so not all aces get a bonus move every turn. Works for me YMMV.
