I've been wanting to play muskets and monsters for a while now, inspired by the surprisingly good recent Solomon Kane movie.

I tried "Witchfinder General" but found it a bit limited in scope. I was considering mixing "Flashing Steel" + "Fear and Faith" but when looking through my Great Rail Wars rules, I remembered Pinnacle had done a Solomon Kane RPG using the same Savage World Engine.

How would work as a miniatures game?

Yup. Ordered it online a week ago. I really recommend it as it is 10x better than the Disneyfied Van Helsing movie.

James Purefoy was well cast and movie surprisingly good for low profile non-blockbuster affair.

I'll have to check that movie out as well. I expected it to be horrible but maybe that was too much Jonah Hex.

Pictors, not comparable.

Jonah Hex was a massive disappointment. It was like discovering the white on the outside of your wedding cake is not icing but dried white dog poop.

Solomon Kane was a pleasant surprise – like discovering the instant coffee you expected from the cafeteria was actually a decent blend from an expresso machine.

I saw the trailer for the film and was impressed, glad it seems to live up to its image.

Agree the movie is well worth a look. Can't say much about jonah hex as I turned it off after about 20 minutes. Though that maybe says everything I need to say LOL.
Loving the look of the Solomon Kane rpg and thanks for the excellent review. Wish I'd seen it before I bought Flashing Steel and Witchfinder. What am I talking about I know there's always room for a few more rule books. Am I right? ;-)

@ Sortium – I went down the same path you did.

It is a great rulebook, but you could use the other SoBH based game "Fear and Faith" for monsters and mix it with Flashing Steel without major problems, for a $10 USD pdf.

Superb movie, got it awhile ago.

Yeah, not bad at all but the end does not do justice the elements involved(sorry to be criptic, trying to avoid spoiling ending), it just felt rushed to me.

The movie can be found on youtube if you don't mind subtitles. I liked but you could tell the director just watched Lord of the RIngs before making the ending.
