I am putting together 3 boxes of Victrix Austrians right now and I am confused about what the differences in backpacks are.

They give you one with a sabre and bayonet and one with just a bayonet for each figure on the sprue but I can't find a uniform reference to tell me when to use one or the other.

Anyone have an idea?

I'd say the "sabres" belong to elites; possibly Grenadiers?

Yep, the sabres are for the grenadier build.

It says on the instructions provided that the one with sword and bayonet is for Grenadiers and sergeants
