Hi

I am planning to make a Osnabrück Hanoverian at Waterloo using a mixture of Perry Brit Plastics and Victrix capped Hanoverian heads.

I was wondering if anyone may have a source for their flag? I couldn't see one on the GMB website. All help is appreciated.

The French text on the "etat major" (staff) tab of your link says that it is not sure that this battalion had a flag at Waterloo.

There is one in the Osnabruck museum but it probably was produced after. Waterloo. There were of course two Osnabruck battalions at Waterloo, the regular one (Herzog von York, or Duke of York's) and the Landwehr one.

There was no official issue of flags prior to Waterloo, but certainly some locally made ones, such as that recorded as being presented to the Verden regiment which was made by the ladies of that town, and also the Landwehr Gifhorn one which still survives, in very poor condition, in their museum.

There was a design proposed, but probably not implemented before Waterloo of a flag with a red central oval containing a white Hanoverian horse. This is depicted in some books on flags with a white background as a Hanoverian flag of an unknown regiment. I have given all my Hanoverian regiments this flag on a ground of their facing colour and with their town badge on the reverse of the flag.

See the following discussion and esp. the post by Steven H. Smith. His last two links are the post Waterloo Osnabruck Landwehr flag. Note the spoked wheel on one face which is on the coat of arms of Osnabruck. An assumption could be made that that some form of this design may have been used at Waterloo.

PS. The Duke of York's Osnabruck line bn. probably wore red coats and belgic shako at Waterloo.
