Barclay de Tolly an 'Aristocratic Git' – I don't think so – born of Scots minor gentry and just his father admitted to the nobility. In Russian terms, a foreign arriviste parvenu, who worked his way up through the ranks on sheer ability alone….How common!

You might better target your disdain at the real aristos who clustered around Kutuzov in the rear swilling champagne and helping him pen imaginary accounts of the battle he couldn't see to the Tsar…
